We are going on vacation and have yet to get the flu shot for my oldest son (5) he has had colds and fevers up until this point.. We leave in less than 24 hours for vacation (in the US) and as most of us know it takes 14 days to settle in the system (to protect) a big part of me wants to wait and the other part wants to get it done...mist or shot?/// HELP!!

What can I do next?

Definitely wait. If your son has been sick anyway, he's probably built up some immunity to whatever is going around out there. And even if he hasn't, I think the last thing you want to do is to give a vaccination to a kid who isn't healthy (his immune system is already working to get him better and the shot could just make it harder) especially right before he gets on a plane.

We got our flu shots last week. Me and my kids all got the shot. Last year me and my daughter got the mist (my son has asthma so he had to get the shot) and my nose hurt for over a month. My daughter also complained of a sore nose for a while. This year the shot only hurt for a couple of days and the kids didn't complain.

I would no way give a shot just before leaving on vacation.especially in a plane where the air is circulating everyone in the planes bugs. Wait til you get home. and have lots of fun. his system is too compromised if he has been sick. the last thing you need is for him to get sick.

get the mist for your kids (easier then a shot) but I would not get it the day before.

I would wait, like you said its not going to set that quickly anyway. And just in case there was a reaction to it, I would wait. Even though there probably won't be.

Just remember that he could get sick if he gets the mist because it is live and the shot is not plus what if he has a reaction do you really want to be away from home or worse in the air (if you are flying) you might want to consider waiting until you get back.
