My 6 year old son first came down with rotovirus around the 20th of December, it lasted 2-3 days. He then got the seasonal flu on the 28th......high fever, body aches, etc. Now, he has a high fever and body aches again, only 2 and 1/2 weeks later. Had him to the doctor on Thursday and he tested negative for the flu and strep. I am wondering if I should take him in to have a blood test.....

What can I do next?

The flu test is not always 100%. Sounds like he has the flu......except...did he get a flu shot? If so, probably not the flu. Probably a self-limiting virus. What exactly do you want a blood test for? Checking for increased or decreased white blood cells could help alot. Ask your doctor.

My daughter had a stomach virus off & on for 3 weeks a few years ago. It actually got so bad that I asked the pediatrician if she was ever going to stop throwing up. They did tests to see if she had an infection but everything came back negative so he said she was just getting exposed again to the virus. So I guess it can happen that often. It was miserable for everyone though and she was just not herself for awhile. I was constantly wiping down everything with disinfectant and she was the only one in the house who got it throughout that entire time. I was worried that it could be something more serious but eventually it stopped & she was fine. I would just keep your pediatrician informed of his symptoms and hopefully he/she will do further testing if needed. Good Luck! I hope he feels better soon & the rest of your family stays well.

probably just another strain of a cold..... but if you feel you need a doc, go.

If your feeling you need to take him to the doctor take him. If nothing is found chalk it up to experience. I'm sure you would much rather do that then not to have gone and it ends up being something that needed to be attended
