I would like to take my family on a family friendly float trip. I have been to several in Cuba/Steelville area, but it's been years, and as I recall, they weren't all "Family Friendly" if you know what I mean. We live in the St. Louis area and are looking to go for one day. Any suggestions?

Ahahahaha yeah, it is hit or miss whether a float trip is family friendly. Pretty much float trips are about getting drunk and having sex in less than appropriate places.

I could list everywhere I have floated because they are nice places to float but if you are looking for somewhere that is "family friendly" only luck will place you there when kids aren't floating.

I just take my kids and figure it is a good learning experience beyond the floating. :-/

Try Bass River Resort in Steelville. www.bassriver.com We go there every year during the week. We have floated on the weekends and I will say that most of the college age kids that are floating/drinking are courteous and try to watch their language when they see younger kids, but you can't always count on that. The last three years we have floated during the week and it is much less crowded and tame. At Bass they have several floats to choose from and their rafts are in good/clean shape. We go with serveral families and spend the night in the cabins and houses. The accomodations are awesome at Bass. It's always and enjoyable time.

I work for the National Park Service and the Superintendent of the Ozark National Scenic Riverways has been working very hard to make the river family-friendly. It's a beautiful park that has many float concessioners.

In Northern Arkansas is the Buffalo National River. www.nps.gov/buff

However, double check the flood reports, no matter where you choose.

I think my brother took his youth group on the Current River, but that might be further away than what you are looking for. Have you checked the Missouri tourism website? They might have info on some good places to go.

I used to live in Missouri and my family went on a 50 mile float trip on the buffalo river. Wouldn't recommend that long of a trip with kids, because it was really hard and we forever joke with my dad about it... created good memories I guess. But, it was definitely family friendly and we camped out on the side of the river in tents every night.

If you go during the weekdays it is much more family friendly than on weekends and much less crowded.
