Fleas - Groves,TX

We have fleas in our yard from neighborhood cats and I'm about to go crazy. We're spraying our yard this weekend to solve that part of the problem. However, now we have fleas INSIDE the house! How do you get rid of them? My mom said to bomb the house but I really don't want to do that b/c I've heard you have to wash everything down after that. Please help!

We don't have pets. We have hardwood floors in the living room and tile in the kitchen/bathroom. We have carpet in the bedrooms.

What can I do next?

Yep, you have to bomb the house... vacuum a lot and you have to dispose of the vacuum bags too, b/c the fleas will jump out. So wrap the bags up in plastic bags really tight and put it out in the garbage.

This happened to us as well. We had a brand new, gorgeous shag area rug. We had to throw it away b/c we couldn't get the eggs out, even after bombing the house. Gross! Once the rug was gone, the flea problem disappeared.

Borax laundry soap (dry) sprinkle it all over the carpeting and furniture and let it set overnight then vacuum and throw the bag away. You can also take a dish of water with dishsoap in it put a candle in the middle of the dish and light it, you will see them dive in and they will drown they can't get out. Just put a little dish everywhere you have seen them you may have to do this for several nights until you don't see anymore and make sure to keep vacuuming daily or more often.

Borax works great! I spent $100's of dollars trying to get rid of fleas with bombs and it NEVER worked. I tried every bomb out there too. I bought borax and left it down for several days then vaccuum....GONE AND HAVE NEVER RETURNED. Borax is cheap too! Approximately $4 a box. I couldn't believe it! I was desparate to try anything then someone told me about Borax. Wish I would have known sooner!!! ;)

Every time you vacuum, throw away the bag or empty the canister. They will still hatch and hop out of the vacuum if they get a chance!

Had fleas inside once. Vacuum everyday and empty the canister and take the trash outside immediately. If you have pillows or stuffed animals etc. put them in sealed garbage bags and leave them until anything in there would have suffocated and then wash them all in hot water. Wash all of your bedding in hot water.
Keep vacuuming everyday for at least 2 weeks to a month. We did this and they went away without a bomb or anything. But it's a process for sure.

Spray the carpets with flea killer and vacuum, vacuum, vacuum. Once they lay eggs, it's SO HARD to get rid of them!

When I have had this problem in the past, I used a flea powder (got it at WalMart). You sprinkle it on the carpet, use a broom to work it into the carpet fibers. Leave it down for a while, then vacuum it up. It worked for me.

Fleas live outside in the dirt. The cats have fleas because of the yard LOL.

But anyway, spraying is all you can do. It's a pain. I do use diatomaceous earth and it helps a lot. I used it for ants, not for fleas. It must have helped the fleas too because this has been a good year all the way around flea wise. It's a white powder that is like fine glass shards to the fleas.

Diatomaceous earth is not poisonous to us. You can powder the floors and or carpets and it will help some.

Do you have pets? You'll need to use frontline on them if you do. Fleas have to have a blood source and usually humans only is not enough.

We've never had them bad enough to have to treat the inside of the house or to spray the yard. So long as we treat our dogs we do fine. Our cats never leave the house. They only get it if we don't treat the dogs fast enough. This year I've been super careful to treat the dogs and keep them flea free. So our cats have been perfect.

after easter last year and this year it was like an invasion of the fleas at our house. we have a dog but she stays in our yard and none of the neighbors have dogs! but everyone gets fleas :( we ended up having a bug man come spray our entire house inside and out even the garage. that helped. the year we had him spray we got him to spray the couches also. he said if the fleas re appeared in a few days to call him back it would have been the eggs hatching. but i think we got them all that yr. they bite me and my daughter who is really allergic to them. they dont seem to bite my hubby or son as much...or ever. i feel for you its not a good pest to have at all.

We had fleas in the house once and the bomb was the only way to eliminate them. Maybe exterminating services have another way by now. I had mine done about 5 years ago. Maybe something new has come out??

Use a fumigator instead of a bomb. It is more of a smoke than a liquid spray. I actually taped around all of my cabinets and sealed off the pantry so there was little to be washed. Also use diatomaceous earth around the perimeter of your house on a regular basis. It will act as another natural barrier to help keep them out of the house - you can get it at Lowe's. If you have pier and beam foundation, you will need to fumigate under the house as well b/c that is where they are coming from. You will need to fumigate two times - one for the adults then another for the eggs that hatched after you fumigated the first time.

We use World Wide pest control. They spray inside & outside of your home. We have them come out, every 3 months.
