Flea Bites - Largo,FL

Does anyone know of anything I can put on my kids (& us adults) to make them less appealling to fleas. I haven't seen many fleas lately (like 1 in the past week) & thought we too care of the problem (I posted about fleas in the house & no pets recently). I see bites on my kids but hardly fleas. They seem to favor my 4yr old, he has several bites. My 13mo old maybe has 1-2. And I don't think they've really gotten my husband or I. I just figure if there is something we can put on us, they'd not really have a "feeding supply" and would maybe die off or go elsewhere............

Thanks!

What can I do next?

I've heard fleas don't like eucalyptus oil. Since you don't have pets in the house, I think you are unlikely to get an infestation. I've been through that - it's terrible!

Do you have pets in the house? Usually fleas overwhelmingly prefer dogs and cats over humans - I've known of people getting flea bites but only because the house was so heavily infested that the pets alone were not enough to "satisfy" them.

Are you sure it's fleas and not something else?

If you have pets in the house, they need to be treated effectively. Either way, pets or no pets, if it really is fleas and you guys are getting attacked, maybe you need to consider a professional exterminator to treat your house and yard. The fleas that are actively feeding on you and/or your dog(s) or cat(s) are just the tip of the iceberg - there are usually thousands more living in the environment for every one that you actually see.

A couple of things to think about with fleas and vacuuming....

Every time you vacuum, empty the canister or toss the bag... the flea eggs can hatch inside the vacuum and find their way out! Try to clean off the filters, as well.

For some reason, the vibrations from vacuuming spur the eggs to hatch... and newly hatched fleas are very hungry! So.... you might see an increase in fleas shortly after you vacuum, also.

And... like chiggers or other biting insects, there are some people they seem to favor... my hubby can get eaten alive by chiggers and such, where they rarely bother me. Maybe it has to do with a person's body temperature, or blood chemistry? I don't know....

This may be too drastic for you, or too expensive, but I pulled up all my carpeting and put down either pergo or tile. It's so much easier to keep clean, and, in your case, would make it a lot harder for fleas to survive.
