Flashlight Friends???

Anyone have experience with them? Does your child have one? What age would you say is too old for one? I thought a couple of my kids might like one but wasn't sure if they are worth it. They run about $15. Surprisingly my 9 year old son still wanted a build-a-bear for Christmas or a Stuffimal. I wondered if this would be better.

What can I do next?

My definition of when they are too old for something is when they say they no longer want it. I hate that people have come up with these arbitrary "too old" limits. I still buy Build a Bears for myself and I'm 43! My 12, almost 13 year old son still loves his. If your son is asking for Build a Bear then he obviously isn't too old for them. Those bears are a lot better built than todays horribly cheaply made and just as expensive action figures!
I haven't gotten one of those flashlight friends but we had one that was the same idea from Ikea. The flashlights they put in them are cheap, low quality ones that just don't work. You're really better off getting a much less expensive, higher quality LED flashlight with a character on it he likes or in a color he likes and an animal that he wants. I've seen the commercials for the Stuffimals and think those might be fun. It would be a good place to store throw blankets and stuff and maybe the flashlight ;)

My son has always loved flashlights! Of course, as he got older, the outside of the flashlight morphed from Elmo, Mojo Jojo, and an awesome hippo, into headlights for caving and night vision for night exploring. Whenever we come across an old one, we sit and share all the adventures we had with that flashlight. Flashlights, build-a-bears, it's all good. It's about the memories!

I'm not a fan of stuffed animals for children over about age 5. They fall into the category of "Sh*t That Clutters Up A Room."

9 year old boy? Lego Technics, remote control helecopters, skateboard.

Reviews say that kids love them, but some reports say they seem to have durability issues. Either the animal comes apart or the flashlight stops working.

Hmmm I think a 9 yo might like one. I don't have any flashlight friends so I can't say if they will last, but I sort of feel $15 isn't too much in the scheme of things buildabear can end up being tons more w accessories and stuff.

one thing to think about is whether or not the child will stay up late messing around w a flashlight, if you go camping lot of have sleepovers and use it for that it might not matter but my ds would be sneaking the light to read books until midnight.
