Flash Card Recommendations

I am looking for recommendations on basic, colorful, one item flash cards for a 2 year old. He's pretty advanced in some areas, knows his whole alphabet, etc, but we are working on actual verbal skills. I would like to find some heavy card stock kind of material, bright, fun looking cards with one syllable words like a photo and a word to work on verbal skills that way. Since he recognizes letters and recognizes objects, we're charging ahead to start the basics of reading. Just need to know where to buy, any favorites?

So What Happened?

Thank you to all those that gave helpful recommendations, I will check out our local LakeShore Learning and bookstores. I love DK products, so might go that route. I considered making them and we do a lot of drawing, stickers, etc, but I am not a super artistic or crafty person, so not certain I want to go that route when he is just learning to draw and color and cannot help all that much. I would not have asked for recommendations on the product if I hadn't already seen that my child enjoys and benefits from this type of learning, he loves to be presented with a question or a challenge or task and praise when he completes it. This is to supplement the reading, puzzles, play, and myriad other activities we already do. I am more than mindful of his strengths and abilities.

Flash cards do not work and should not be used on a 2 yr old.
If he truly is gifted he will pick things up w/o you pushing it on him.
Toddlers learn best through play.
Read to him , play with him, that's all you need to do.

Dear reluctant-

I would make them myself...allowing child to help...using index cards. For shapes...YOU draw the shape...and have kiddo 'colour'...then ya have a 'green' whatever...

I also often got clear contact paper and 'laminated' with that.

I found my kiddos felt much more interested and 'invested' when THEY had part in helping...

Best luck!

I found some nice flash cards at Michaels with 3 and 4 letter words and pictures on them for a dollar. My 2 year old loves them.

My kiddos LOVED their DK Flash cards. They were sturdy, textural and really helped them develop their vocabularies. They used to have 3 sets, but they may have more now.
