Recently my five year old daughter had strange looking urine. It looked as if you had poured a bottle of vegetable oil in a bucket of water. The urine was light in color with bright yellow-orange oily bubbles floating on top. This happened twice that I noticed in two different toilets. It didn't happen when anyone else used the toilet. I took her to the pediatrician. They tested her urine and said that there was some protein and white blood cells, but nothing out of the ordinary. They were stumped. It hasn't happened since, but I'm still concerned as to why it happened in the first place. Has anyone experienced anything like this before?
Does she drink enough water? I sometime have this problem if I am slightly dehidrated. It's possible that on those two occassions she just didn't drink enough water to flush out her system. If that's not a possibility I would think following up with a specialist.

I would take her to a kidney specialist if it happens again. My experience is similar but different; hopefully it will help. I turned 40 in January, got a respiratory virus, and my pee turned almost black. The urologist said my kidneys were bleeding into my bladder; the kidney specialist thinks it's IgA nephropathy. Like your daughter, I also had white blood cells and protein in my urine. But I have a history of microscopic blood in my urine too, which I would hope they tested your daughter for also. I'm not in any way suggesting your daughter has what I do, but I wouldn't let a pediatrician's declaration of "I'm stumped" prevent you from getting answers, especially if it happens again. I learned about the microscopic blood 10 years ago and didn't pursue it because the doctors said some people "just had it". It turns out I also have celiac disease, which has probably compounded the damage to my kidneys,and it's probably something I've had for a long time. Your daughter is so young, maybe it was just something she ate or drank. But it could also be that whatever she's eating is not right for her body. You're right to be concerned about why it happened in the first place.
Were you in the bathroom with her when it happened? Maybe she poured a bathroom product in there or something. Kids sometimes don't disclose stuff, you never know.
My 3 yr old son has similar strange looking urine all the time. When it hits the water it separates into two different looking consistencies. I have two small boys and only one has this type of urine. Growing up with 5 brothers you would think I had seen something like this before but have not. Any ideas?
I was wondering, could she have drank something that might have caused it?

Dark yellow or orange urine can be caused by recent use of laxatives or consumption of B complex vitamins or carotene. Orange urine is often caused by pyridium (used in the treatment of urinary tract infections), rifampin, and warfarin.
You don't think she accidentally ate a laxitive?

Maybe the fluid is coming from one of the glands in the urethra or the vagina. you should have a gynecologist evaluate this possibility by pressing on the urethra from back to frint to see if any of this fluid can be pushed out in this way. Also look for bulges or cysts in the urethral area.
Did they test for diabetes? The foamy urine could be an indication of diabetes, I would ask to be tested.

I thought that some of the fat replacement items could give you oily stools...Like the fat free chips etc. I would think that this might affect her urine as well....Has she eaten any reduced fat or fat free items? I believe that olestra used to cause this as a side effect. I don't know if they still use it or not. Hope this helps- good luck!
Did he repeat the test within a few days to see if they went back to normal levels? I would definitely follow up and request another urinalysis. Make sure YOU wipe her before the test to make sure they are not getting a false positve. If the levels have not normalized, she may have a urinary tract, bladder or kidney infection and just may not be feeling the symptoms that she can verbalize yet. With girls, especially once they are old enough to wipe themselves are prone to urinary tract infections.
I guess I watch that show mysterious diognostic way too much...but ask your doctor to talk to a specialist in that area. Most of the time it is the specialist that knows more about that certain thing then a general doctor. plus a specialist will run test that a general doctor wouldn't know about.
I learned from that show to not let your doctor dismiss anything that you see as abnormal. If your ped. won't do it, press him until he/she does or talk to another doctor or find a specialist on your own.
If you really feel it's a problem don't let anyone talk you out of it. Follow your mother spidy sence lol
