Hi moms, Im a first time mom and my son is 8 months 1/2 old. As we all know after having a baby we are left with a lose stomach well at least for me. I'm want to know how can I lose this stomach I gained and how to lose the weight. Before I got pregnant I weight 125 lb and after I had my son I weighed 136 so I still have a lot to lose. What can you guys recommend I'm not such a gym person though. My thighs and hips got big as well as my arms. Any recommendations?? That would help. Thanks:)

What can I do next?

HASfit.com has 30 and 90 day work out routines, and hundreds of individual workout videos (free online). I'm really enjoying them and started seeing physical changes in myself after 2-3 weeks. They are designed for working out at home and only require a light set of dumbells. All the videos are short...some as short as 3 minutes, some as long as 30.

Also, it might sound unrelated, but for myself, the 1st change I made when I wanted a physical make-over was to establish a regular bedtime and wake up time...and stick to them. Sleep is so very important to every aspect of life and will help you be in the best shape you can.

After I got my funky sleep habits under control (I am a super night owl and would be up until 2am every night if I didn't have kids to get up with in the morning), I cut out white...white sugar, white bread, white rice, etc. After that I added an exercise program. I'm jut not the kind of person that can handle too many changes at once. :)

Try Stroller Strides. Its a great way to lose that extra baby fat, and bond with other moms and get to work out with your baby at the same time. It's awesome. I have been doing it for 2 1/2 years and have made some great friends and have become much stronger than I ever could going to a gym.
Just find online if there is one close to you. you can try it free for the first week.
Good luck.

Lots and lots of walking... running if you are up to it.

Before I got pregnant with my second child, I was at about 125 and at my 6 week post-partum visit was at 142. I got an account with www.myfitnesspal.com (free) and made a commitment to myself to exercise for 20-30 minutes each day. I get an hour for lunch, but eating at my desk takes 10 minutes. I use the rest of the time to walk... bring my sneakers and a brush to touch-up my hair after and I'm all set.

My little girl is 6.5 months and I'm actually at 120 now. I've lost 22 pounds since July and feel great... sounds like a commercial, I know, but it's true.

There's no secret- expend more calories than you consume and the weight will go away. Do crunches and lift light weights to "tone" once you build your stamina.

You CAN do this... you also can (and should) take 30 minutes to yourself each day to reset!

You're going to have to exercise, there's no two ways about it. You don't have to join a gym.

You should find something you enjoy doing that is exercise. If you don't enjoy doing it, you won't do it! There are so many wonderful ways to exercise now that are fun! Zumba, Jazzercise, Pilates, Yoga, Cardio Kickboxing, Dance, Step, Spin. Many places will let you try out a class for free so take advantage and see if you like it!

Usually the issue is getting yourself to DO the exercise, which is why a lot of gym membership or at-home DVD workouts fail. Joining a class is a good way to schedule the exercise in and help you to do it.

I would also look at your diet and make some changes. Getting on a diet program is a good idea. Pretty much any of the diet programs work, you just have to find one that you feel you can do.

The major thing is to start slow and build up. Don't go all-hog with one of those hard programs because you'll end up quitting within 2 weeks. Don't look for fast results, look for steady results.

Think tortoise and the hare. The person who loses the weight goes slow and steady at his or her own pace with things that they can be successful at. The person who never quite loses the weight is the person who jumps on different diet and exercise bandwagons full force, but then quits a few weeks later because it's too hard.

Good luck!

There are some excellent exercise videos on hulu.com. I love the Get Fit Stay Fit ones. Just did a kickboxing video with my husband and it was fun! There are firm videos and gaiam videos too. Lots to choose from if you take a little time to do some searches. You have to try to find some that are longer..some are just clips.

Krista is correct diet and exercise are the key to getting back in shape after baby.
I am going to add to her recommendations:
a Thigh Master -- still available on Suzanne Somers web site.
an Ab Roller -- hard to find but I found several at Play It Again Sports. They work great to tighten up ab muscles. The instructions will tell you to use for 3 minutes if abs are really out of shape. Welllll....... I did that right after I got mine and I was in good shape, just needed the ab work, I couldn't breathe for about a week. I recommend a one minute workout with them for the first week, then work up to 2 minutes. They really do work to shape up abs, almost too well.
I can also recommend a Total Gym.

I'm a big work out person and love P90X. If you're not a gym person, it's an AMAZING workout you can do at home... It's not easy, so pace yourself :)

Pilates is great for abs and is actually one of the best postnatal forms of exercise. If you have baby boot camp in your area check it out. You get a great workout with your son. I love group classes at our Y to help push me along and you meet people who will notice if you aren't there.
