Both my boys started on fish as soon as they were on solid foods. I honestly never knew you weren't to give them fish till a certain age. My youngest has loved shrimp and rice since he was barely a year old.
Hi all. I have a 14 month old who eats just about everything. At what age can I introduce fish? He has been allergy tested for it and it came back negative. He also takes Children's DHA(baby cod liver oil as per dr.'s instructions) for the Omega 3 and does not exibit any allergies to that either.

Go for it! But hold back on shellfish, I would wait until 3 for that. My son has loved Salmon and Talapia since about that age! Double check with you pediatrician just in case.
My Ped told me any type of flat fish is ok but no shell fish until after 18months. My baby is 16 months and eats whiting, fish sticks, flounder. Hope this helps.
whenever you feel ready you can try. have some childrens benadryl on hand double check with you dr on dosage. if there is a reaction the antihistamine in benadryl will help.
Hi N., my name is R. and I am married to a Fishmonger. What is a Fishmonger.... he wholesales/retails seafood and he's been in the business for over 15 years. We have a 20 month old and my husband is very concientious of what my son eats. At 14 months it's safe for your son to eat white fish, such as cod, tilipia and even salmon. My husband will not allow our son to eat any shellfish, tuna (even tunafish from the can) or shark until the age of 2 years. Even though he's been tested and the fact that no one in the family is allergic he has concerns and feels it is best to hold off until the age of 2.
I hope this helps.
R.
P.S. I'm a working mom looking forward to winter break as well. :)
once your child is 12 months, its digestive system is pretty close to an adults... so he/she can handle most food. if you don't have fish or seafood allergies in the family, you should be fine to introduce them to you child now. my son had crab, shrimp, fish sticks and salmon without any problem by 13 months. he also had peanut butter at 10 months. i think people tend to err on the side of caution with fish and nuts beacuse they are such common allergens... it's safer to just generalize and say wait until your child is older... but really, each child is different.
i was told not to give any kind of fish or nut product until 2 yrs of age. but that was after i gave my 3 month old a taste of peanut butter (thank god she didn't have a reaction) and she had STOLEN a piece of smoked whiting from my husband at about 18 months. again, no reaction. so now, since 18 months, i've been giving her peanut butter and all fish products. i choose to give her tuna, and fish sticks, but any other fish, has to be when my husband's eating it (being that those are the ONLY 2 fish products (other then shrimp which i don't think she's ready for) that i can stomach. so basically, they say 2 yrs, but i would say if there's been NO allergies, just give a small piece, and if no reactions, then try a bigger piece next time, until he seems to have NO reactions at all. just be careful until he's 2. oh, and just incase it's something that has to do with "tiny tummies" my daughter seems to get really rank and mushy poops when she eats tuna. if she eats too much of it, she acts like it's hard to go...but is fine once she goes (which is usually the day after she eats it) i know it's a little more info then you asked for...just wanted to try and give any possible info you may need.
