First Time Mom Worried?

28 weeks pregnant as of today. Am slowly leaking a fluid. I thought it was just urine until paying closer attention and it is clear and doesn't really have a smell. When I get up or out of my truck it feels more like a gush. For instance I was driving to Walmart this evening. While I was driving I could feel a noticeable leak and it just doesn't feel like urine to me but i don't really know. When I got out of my truck it seemed like it almost gushed out of me and as I continued to walk it was still coming out of me. When I got into the bathroom it didn't have any color or smell like urine and it almost looked like I could have drizzled on myself. As in my panties were soaked and the crouch of my pants was visibly wet. So embarrassing, but I don't want to worry if it is just urine. So please help with advise. Thank you.

You have to go to the hospital so they can test the fluid. It is impossible for anyone to tell without the test

Welcome to mamapedia!!

This is NOT something you should be asking a group of people you do not know - this is something you need to contact your OB/GYN about. TODAY...not in a few minutes - NOW.

My pregnancy with my now 13 year old was like that - I was 36 weeks - so he was ALMOST done baking....I had a HIGH Amniotic leak. He was born with pneumonia and an APGAR score of 3. He flatlined on me 3 hours after he was born. Doctor's gave him a 50/50 chance of survival.

Not telling you this to scare you - but to tell you to get your butt to the Dr NOW. You don't mess with amniotic fluid.

You need to call your Dr. NOW and not be online trying to figure out what this is and self diagnose.

IF in fact it is amniotic fluid, your Dr. needs to see you and possibly get you on some meds and/or bedrest. Call the Dr. NOW and find out the next steps they want you to take.

This is not something you take lightly.... you are pregnant and the safety of your baby and you should be at the top of a priority list.

Good luck

Call your doctor's after hours line and ask or go to the ER. It's a quick swab test that changes color right there if it is amniotic fluid so you know instantly. If it's not they won't be angry for you coming in with a false alarm. If it is then they can help figure out why and make sure baby is OK.
Asking a bunch of strangers on an anonymous website is not going to answer your question because none of us are medical professionals standing next to you, able to test and see.

Yes, call the doctor or your insurance's or the ER advice nurse. If this is amniotic fluid leaking it could be serious. The baby needs a cushion of fluid in the amniotic sac.

We're not trained in medicine. Always call a medical person for medical questions. Even if it's urine, there is no need to be embarrassed. Your doctor expects you to call. As you said, you can't tell. That's when you get professional help.

See your doctor asap.
Sometimes a small leak might happen and it might self repair.
You might need to be on bed rest for awhile.

Go to the ER. They can do a test to see if it's amniotic fluid or pee, and you can go from there. I never had a big gush of my water breaking when I was in labor with my DD. I had leaking similar to your description, though even less. Please get seen.

It could easily be either urine or amniotic fluid. You're going to have to call your doctor. Don't take any chances, and don't feel bad because it's the weekend. Just call ... right now. You won't be the first patient to ask this question on a Friday night.

I agree with others. Sometimes a small leak of amniotic fluid is okay (it happened to me) but yours is continuing. Even if it weren't ongoing, your first call is always to your doctor! OB/GYNs are always, always on call for pregnant patients, and if for any reason you can't get through, you go to the ER. Absolutely the last place you want to be is on an internet forum like this - it wastes precious time and can't do a thing for you. We're here for non-urgent questions about parenting and women's issues, but not for urgent medical situations or diagnoses. Please get immediate medical attention, and then feel free to come back to Mamapedia for other questions.

They can give you a very quick, painless test at the hospital. Please go to your doc or the ER right away. It is absolutely worth finding out for sure.

If it was urine, it would happen more likely when you coughed or sneezed for example. You would be getting it regularly whenever you did these things, from the pressure of the baby on your bladder.

But if it's a gush when you get up (or as you say out of your truck when you move position) and it's slowly leaking, it could be amniotic fluid. If you woke up this morning and had a gush when you got up - make sure you go in. Hopefully you've already called. They can help you (don't be too alarmed) but only if you go in.

Good luck :)

If it's fluid from the baby you need to get this taken care of today. Call your doc and ask him if you should go to the ER. He might want to meet you at the hospital and check you out himself or whomever is on call.

I'd want to know.

You will need to see the doctor, who can do a simple test to check for amniotic fluid. It is important to know if it is amniotic or not, so go immediately.

If it is simply increased vaginal discharge, then the solution will be pantiliners.

I hope you have gone to the doctor and been checked out. This nothing to mess with.

I was very lucky, all 4 of my pregnancies were "Text book". No complications, etc. If something like this had happened to me? I'm sure Tyler would have taken me to the ER to be checked out.
