We are leaving a week from today on a plane to disney world. I myself get sick on planes and have to take medication. I have never traveled with children and have no idea what it is like. Anyone have any sugestions on the best way to pack and travel with a 4 year old??

What can I do next?

I have traveled with my soon to be 9month old. If this helps..I usually bring a bottle, well something to drink. This will keep the child swallowing and their ears won't hurt when you change altitudes on the plane. Remember that you can only bring a limited amount of liquids of any kind on the plane now(perfumes,shampooetc..) Also it must be in a clear plastic bag or else it will be taken away during the search. I also bring baby cookies/crackers, something she will enjoy eating. This serves the same purpose as the drink, it's just a variety to keep them busy. If you allow her to chew gum, you can give her maybe some sugar free gum for take off. This will also help the ear popping and serve as a distraction.A toy that she enjoys, when it no longer distracts her pull out a different one. usually a toy that is not going to disturb others on the plane. By distraction, i not only mean from the ears, but also to keep her occupied because children tend to get tired of sitting down for long periods of time. Also hopefully they are showing a movie and she can use the earphones. Also a little blankes because it sometimes gets chilly on the plane and there is not always enough on the plane. Hopefully she will sleep part of the way. Good luck and have fun

I was on another site and from what I hear it isn't as bad as you would think. I would ask the Dr. about dramamine (for motion sickness) just in case. It should be fine traveling with your little girl. GL

If your worried about her possibly getting sick, Dramamine has chewable tablets that really work, and make sure to get some earplugs. I just came home from Florida with my seven month old and he hated the earplugs but it helps.

It is pretty tough to amuse a kid for that long. With my daughter we bring coloring books (washable crayons or markers) and a portable DVD player. Also pack snacks because that will amuse her for a short time. Good luck. You might want to give her some Motrin about 1/2 hour before take off so she doesn't have to worry about ear pain.
