First Birthday Party Venue

It depends on how active your 1 year old is, but a friend of mine did hers at Chucke Cheese. (This is in IGH) There is a toddler area with a little slide and some rides, a video game area, and a big climbing thing for kids in between. I've been to a couple of birthday parties there now and it seems easy and is always fun for the kids. I think it's pretty inexpensive too.

I had the same situation for my sons first birthday. I have a friend who lives in an apartment, and she got the party room for us. It worked very well. They usually require a check as a deposit in case there is any damage, that you get back after you are done. Most have tables, a counter, and a fridge and microwave and maybe even an outdoor grill. We did our own decorating, grilled hot dogs and hamburgers, and had some other snack food available. It was very easy. We only had a few children though, all around my sons age. And then we had about 30 adults. For his 2nd b-day, we did chuck e cheese, with 8 kids and also about 30 adults. Next year, I am doing a kids only party (parents welcome... but not all my friends without kids anymore).

Edinborough Park in Edina has a great indoor playground with a space for having cake/coffee, etc.

I believe only the kids have to pay to attend...adults will be no charge - $4/5 per child.

I was in the same situation and coudn't find anything that would work so I asked my parents if we could use their house/backyard and they were more than happy to do so.

When my son was younger I too had partys that had more adults than kids..
We had his partys at McDonalds playland because that way there was something for the kids to do and the adults could chat while the kids played...
I know its kinda cheesy but it worked for us..
There are other places where the kids can play as well.. You could check into that as well..

Check with your church. I held my daughter's first birthday at our church which had access to the play room and kitchen. Since we were members all we had to do was give a donation. Worked perfectly.

Check with your city's community center. I live in New Brighton and we have a fantastic Family Service Center with rooms to rent for the party as well as what's called the Eagle's Nest - an indoor playground for the kids. It's a very popular place!
