Hi, I am looking for a place to have my daughter's first birthday party on September 5th. We are on a tight budget right now and the party will mostly involve family and close friends (not a huge party, by any means). I have been looking for either a community center type place, or somewhere that is used to having birthday parties for young kids. I'm also looking for a bakery or individual who can create a great cake to compliment a Winnie-the-Pooh theme. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated~

What can I do next?

Hi there,
You can check with your Community Centers, Libraries, YMCA's, etc... They usually rent rooms for not too much.
As for the cake, I can't remember the name of the cake place that we used- but it's on Southlake Blvd.- in the shopping center where that big shoe store that closed is located. If not, I've heard great things about most of the cake places in Southlake.

I usually get my cakes from Creative Memories in Hurst. For my daughter's 1st birthday I just went to Target to get her cake. It tasted good and it had the Winnie the Pooh theme. Just depends on how much you want to spend on a cake.

For the cake, I'd go to Albertson's. When I did my son's first b-day this past April, they included a separate smash cake for him, a #1 candle and a balloon. I'm sure they probably have a winnie the pooh cake. As far as location - have you thought of a nearby park? If you contact your city's recreational center they might have a location (like a pavilion, or maybe even an indoor place) you could rent for a nominal fee. Good luck!. :)

If you are on a tight budget, why not have the party at home? At 1, the child is too young to play at a play place by themselves? Another thought is to not "book" a party, but just have one somewhere. Have friends meet at the park where the little one can play and swing, but no expense. As for a cake, I think Sams, Walmart, and Target all do really good cakes for all themes for reasonable prices. However, you can make a cake as well, put a winnie the pooh character on it and call it a day! They sell the candles with the theme characters or do cupcakes and put the little candy things on them with the character. Both should cost less than purchasing a cake.

I understand this is your first child and it's her first birthday, but she won't remember it. All you need are some pictures and good friends to celebrate with. There is NO reason to spend a ton of money!

What area do you live in? The by far BEST place for cakes is believe it or not Krogers. I have gotten cakes from Kroger in Highland Village and also Signature Kroger in Denton and have been extremely impressed with their cake quality and price. They cake do three tiered princess cakes, did a three teired cake like the princess one but I had them do it in purple, with pink flowers and put tinkerbell at the top, also had them do another three teired variation that was pink with white polka dots. For her 3rd bday we did a mini mouse cupcake cake. It was so adorable. The cupcakes were put together made into mini mouse's face with a big pink and white bow.. This year we went to the Walmart in Highland Village and my daughter wanted a three teired pink castle cake with sparkles. I have always been impressed with the Walmart when shopping and I decided to venture out this year (BIG MISTAKE).. I am not a baker and I could have thrown this cake together in fact I think my 4yr old could have done a better job. I was so disappointed and would definitely not recommend WalMart even the fancy walmart in HV to anyone!! I am now a faithful Kroger cake girl!! They are wonderful and can do just about anything you want. The best part is they cakes are always awesome and affordable... Hope I helped out a little.

Arbor Hills Nature Preserve is a great place for a party. And for a 1st birthday, you shouldn't have to spend much money. They are so little. A laid back, playful atmosphere with the people they love will mean the most and not overwhelm your daughter. I remember when my oldest turned one, we invited our family to meet us at the park. I packed blankets and home made ice cream. I bought little terra cotta pots - the cheap ones for about 50 cents a piece and my husband and I sat in front of the TV one night and painted little flowers and such on them. I made a special one for my daughter that had Piglet holding a balloon with a 1 on it. We used those terra cotta pots lined with plastic cups to serve the ice cream. I brought the Piglet one home and it is still in my pantry holding chip clips. LOL Every time I see it I think of that sweet memory.
They grow up so fast. Make the memories sweet, not exhausting. I know you will.

We just had my daughter's first birthday party. Allison at Pattycakes made her cake and it turned out ADORABLE - she did a pink cake with different color polka dots. She even made a chocolate smash cake for my daughter. The cake got rave reviews and was very reasonable - much less than a bakery since she makes them out of her home - yummmmy!!! (I know she could make a winnie the pooh theme cake)
