Hello-
My daughter's first birthday is March 19th, and I do not know what to do. I know 1st Birthday's are supposed to be a big deal but we do not have a lot of family in the state and none of them are young children (the youngest is 9 I think) anyways does anyone have some good ideas of a good birthday party. It is too cold to be outside, our apartment is too small and we don't have a lot of money to spend. I want this day to be special and fun for everyone- any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

What can I do next?

some movie theaters have little rooms that you can use for birthday parties next to their arcades. it could be a good space that wouldn't cost to much. also there is always chucky cheese. they do birthday parties and include tokens and pizza but i don't know how much it costs. and is usually pretty noisey, not my cup of tea but i know alot of people who use them. also do you go to a church? most of the time churches will let you use their fellowship halls or basements for free as long as you clean up after yourself. another thing is McDonalds play area. they have birthday packages that include happy meals, party gifts, birthday cake, and plates, cups ect. for the party. I know you dont have a lot of younger kids going, we don't either but really it is about your baby so whatever she enjoys, go with it and don't worry about everyone else. i have spent to much time tring to please everyone else for my kids parties and in the end, it didn't matter as long as my birthday baby had a great time. good luck i hope this helps, have fun!

I'm in the same boat. On my daughter's first birthday we did a barbeque mostly adults and I invited anyone I could possily think of that had kids close friends or not I was desperate for people to invite. We did it at my dad's backyard. I know rental places sometimes have a party room to rent or Chuckie Cheese is good too. They don't remember their first birthdays even though it's so important to us mom's. When they're older they're parties are more fun and exciting and they have friends to invite.

First birthday parties are only thrown for the adults. All of our family lives out of state too and I was surprised at all the people who attended our daughter's party. We were able to use a room in our church, they just requested a donation. You can always go to The Park at MOA :). Otherwise you can always wait until spring or summer when it's easier for people to travel and have it at a park or at Como Zoo. Nadina won't know the difference.

Some of the Davanni's pizza restaurants have party rooms that you can use at no charge. Since a 1 year old doesn't really care about the amenities at Chuckie Cheese, this is a nice alternative that is affordable.
