All great ideas so far, but 1 thing my daughters great grandparents do for her everyyear is put money in her savings account. Also, something like a gift certificate to Jungle Java, or Gymboree, whatever play center is near you.
My baby will be turing one in October(time flies). My husband and I have already bought her our gifts, but our family members and close frineds would like ideas as to what to get her...does anyone have any suggestions...?

We recommend money for college. They get so many toys (esp on the 1st b-day) and they will hardly play with them. We opened Michigan Saves college fund. Parents and Grandparents can make tax deductible donatations. All of our family knows ALL money my son gets for gifts goes to his college account.
Another idea is telling people you are signed up for a music, art, tumbling class and having someone give that as a gift.
If that fails and people want to get an actual present, I also tell them BOOKS.
M.~I have always asked family to give my children clothes or educational gifts. This way I knew that the items would be used. I didn't want to have toys that would not help my child learn. Plus kids grow so fast that my family always bought clothes for the next season for my kids. I hope this helps you!
If you don't already have this, Baby Gymnastics Bounce & Spin Zebra made by fisher price. It is a larger toy which I am sure you are sick of by now. But we bought it for our daughters first birthday and she will be turning 2 in 3 1/2 months and she still loves that thing. She honestly was the most hysterical kid to watch on it. We had family members come over to watch her bounce on it because it was hilarious. Also the Laugh and Learn Puppy by Fisher price is great also. Hope this helps.
Turning 1, How fun (my little girl is almost 3 1/2 now).. I'd say some of the fun things that she received was
*Pink Push Around Buggy - by Step 2 (even though fall and winter is coming up, you can push her around the house, she'll love it)
*Laugh and Learn Learning Home - by Fisher Price
*Baby Gymnastics Bounce & Spin Zebra - by Fisher price (my daughter never actually got this one, I don't think it was out yet - but we bought for my niece - so fun!)
* Sesame Street baby purse or My first purse
* Laugh and Learn Song and Story Chair - by Fisher Price
* Sesame Street: Lots To Learn - Elmo Laptop
* V.Smile Baby: Infant Development System
Well theres a few that I really like... The last 2 weren't out when my daughter was little but I really like them!
Good Luck on the party
Also if you'd like personalized invitations with childs photo(s), I enjoy doing them - Email me, and I could send you a few that I've done for friends and family, if you'd like... Its not a business or anything - just a hobby I do for myself, friends and Family.. I would do it for free if you want to print yourself (I would send you the high resolution jpg file) or I could print on a professional style semi-gloss paper, for a small fee...

Good Luck with the party (:
There are alot of great things you can get. Maybe a gift card would you a great idea. Get a gift card to toys r us and take your little one on a shopping spree and have her pick out what she likes.
When my son turned one, i recieved the best idea... Bonds, or money for his savings account :) He still recieved so many toys, and clothes, but not an overabundence. We were given so many bonds, and money to put towards his college fund. Also with an Ocotber baby, christmas is right around the courner... so you will be recieving another large amount of gifts for your baby.
Hi M.,
One thing we got our son is the Fisher-Price Corn Popper and, although he wasn't really able to use it for a couple months until he started walking, it has become his absolute favorite toy. It's the one thing that he plays with every single day. And - bonus - it's only like $10!
Make sure you have a video camera ready at her birthday party - you won't want to miss a second of it! Good luck. : )

ok I know this sounds a little advanced but when my son turned 1 i bought him ( i think its leap frogs ) its a magnetic thing that you put on the fridge and it has all the letters for the ABC's and numbers 1-0 my son absolutely loved it .. it tells you what the letters and numbers are and sounds the letters out along with singing the abcs.. my son is 2 now and knows his alphabet pretty well. its never to early to start.. also books books book...maybe even the square box thing ( gees i wish i knew the names of them) that you put the shapes in the correct hole..Also the leap frog learning drum...that has the abcs. numbers stuff like that ... hey and clothes never hurt.. hope these help you ....and like i said the magnetic things seems to be advanced but i dont go by ages on certain things and kids catch on fast ..hope this helps
