So I did a real quick google search and the general consensus is WD 40. Others were rubbing alcohol and WD 40 (mixed), nail polish remover, aerosal spray sunscreen. Maybe one of these will work!
My 4 year old practiced his writing on my brick fire place, with a permanent maker. I have tried every thing I know to get it off... Any suggestions?

Hi S.,
Never had that happen. Do you know about Melaluca, there is a all in one cleaner called Solumel that works on almost everything.
Or the magic sponge, that may work to. Just may have to work hard with it.
Those are the only two things I can suggest that might work!
Good luck!
Alcohol swabs usually work to get permanent marker off of anything. Try it in a small area first and see.
I have seen the magic eraser take permanent marker off of other surfaces, I don't see any reason it shouldn't remove it from brick...The only problem I forsee is the rough surface may breay up the spongelike material it is made out of before it can do it's job. I would suggest have a few handy in case this happens..
Good Luck... ;-)
I have a five year old that loves to practice her writting everywhere .I use the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. That has worked for me.
There is a new solution that will remove it. I was told about it at a paint specialty store. They didn't carry it, but he told me what it was and where to get it. I can't help you with that - because I don't remember!!! But, I know there is something that was just invented a few years ago that does wonders. I was told that it is the only thing that really works well. I would ask around specialty paint stores. They carry some stuff, but the newer product supposedly is best.
I was just at Wal-mart and notice there is a product in the (Arts and Craft section by the glues)to remove different things. I can't remember the name of it but it had a list of things it could remove. The cost was about $4.00. It said that it was safe on almost all surfaces. Good luck!
Have you tried *Ink Away* its made by the makers of *Goo Gone*
S.,
Wow....I'm not looking forward to the stage when my little one can write on things with a permanent marker....ahh! It will come though :) Hey, I use products that have proven to be awesome on getting tough stuff out of anything! The greatest thing about the products is that they are safe to use around you and your family. There are not any harmful chemicals in them, like the everyday ones we get at the local stores. Anyway, I order them online. I have been a customer for almost a year and I have LOVED everything! You may have already gotten the stain out, but if not or if you want to start buying safe and AWESOME products that will get anything out.....let me know. You can inquire on my website and I will contact you personally and tell you about them. I promise, you will love them!

S., try using the scrubby side of the sponge you use for washing dishes. That has gotten permanent marker off of most hard surfaces for me, but you have to use it gently or the scratches will show.
Good luck!

One word: OFF...yes, the insect repellent. You might test it on a small area first and make sure it doesn't hurt whatever finish is on the fireplace, but it works wonders to remove permanent marker on most surfaces (even got red sharpy off our beige carpet...stunk for a while, though!). Makes you wonder if it removes permanent marker so well, what is it doing to skin?? :)
Nailpolish remover gets off peranent marker. It's one of those old things that grandma passes down in times of need. It really works and I have used it a lot of times in my life. Goo Gone is good too.
Morning S.;
Try WD40, spay on the graffiti and let sit a couple of minutes then take alcohol soaked cloth and rub to remove!
Good Luck,

Bricks are very absorbant. I am assuming the bricks arent painted, because they are near a fire place. I would try bleaching it first then after you tried all the other momma's suggestions. I know that a water pressure machine gets stuff off of the bricks. You should probabley call a chimeny sweep and ask them for suggestions. I scaned the other comments and before you use any oil based product please try it in a corner or near the back close to the floor or somewhere it wont be noticed. I am thinking that it will take up some of the color making it a lighter shade but the oil based things will leave there own stain. So try in a corner before you have a blotchy fire place.
There is a product called Solumeal that would clean it up and it is non toxic so your little one can help. You can only buy from a members only club ,but if I refer you then you can become a member and shop at their great store.
Solumeal get off marker paint tar fingernail polish lipstick and much much more Ilove this product.
I second the recomendation of Goof Off, its at the hardware store in the paint dept.
Hello S.,
Have you tried Mr. Clean Magic Eraser ? Someone recommended Awesome Orange cleaner or the Awesome Oxygen cleaner that can be purchased at the Dollar Tree or Family Dollar stores. Hope this helps!
E.
If you haven't already - you might try Magic Erasers.
They took Sharpie off our baseboard when our cousin's kids decided to decorate for us.
Good Luck
I've used toothpaste to remove permenant marker before. Of course, that was before they had the Magic Eraser by Mr. Clean. That's a great product too!
Rubbing alcohol and a rag (and a bunch of elbow grease to rub it out) works on permament marker on plastics and other things. I haven't tried it on brick though but it's worked everywhere else. Good luck!
Have you tried "goof-Off". We use it alot and it takes about everything off. You can get it any home improvements store, Lowes, Home depot, etc. Good luck.
Hi S.,
You can get a product called "Sulfumic Acid Cleaner" that is used for cleaning and stripping masonry and brick. Get it at the home improvement stores, found in the tile section. It's in a yellow tub w/red top, small tub is less than $10. Follow the directions EXACTLY. Wear gloves! This is in granulated form and is mixed with water. As a designer, I use it to strip gunk off brick, tile, grout, etc. My tile mason recommened it for a project a few years ago. Works very well.
Good luck!

I would try two products, the first being magic eraser, the other if that doesn't work is goof off (that is the real name).
If those don't work....buy a frame and frame it. LOL sorry sometimes you have to sit back and enjoy the gifts you've been given...even if they don't seem like gifts now, sooner or later they will.
God Bless
Bath and Body Works Body Splash (any scent will do)! I worked there for 9 years and it was our #1 cleaning agent! I was able to get permanent marker off almost anything! Spray enough to make the ink start to run, then blot with paper towel, then continue to keep spraying till it is all gone! Good luck!
