Fingers Skin Peeling Off

I have been dealing with this issue (the skin on my fingertips peeling off) for years but it seems to have gotten worse in the last few months and whatever OTC cream I use it does not work, so I am thinking seeing a dermatologist, as he may be able to prescribe something to help. I have been using otc hydrocortisone cream for a month now and it helped just a little (it helps the cracked skin to heal, but since the skin is still very dry, it starts peeling off again). Anyone have dealt with this? Thanks.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Yeah, I had my THS checked few months ago and it was normal.

In addition to your other two very good answers, you might try changing your clothes washing detergent. Use Tide Free. My husband's dermatologist told him that after he had a massive dermititis infection. He uses Ivory soap, and Cera Ve lotion. Perhaps it would help you too.

Do have your thyroid checked. That's REALLY important.

Have you had your thyroid levels checked?
My hands and feet peeled something awful before I began taking medication for hypothyroidism.

Sounds like contact dermatitis/eczema. I use a prescription for triamcinolone acetonide cream. It works well. Make sure you use hand lotion like cetaphil or vanicream regularly throughout the day. Also try using a gentler hand soap and don't use the hand sanitizers. I found the kiss my face hand soaps to be great! Your regular doctor should be able to help you. They may also tell you to put some sort of antibacterial ointment on the cracks until they heal. Once healed the key to keeping your hands in good form is to be diligent with the lotion. You should apply everytime your hands get wet.

My mom's friend had this problem on her feet. My mom gave her Nuetrogena foot cream and she ended up canceling her dermatologist appointment. They have a hand cream that cleared up eczema on my hand that a prescription drug didn't clear up.

Hi Lusy, skin grows from the inside. What are you feeding yourself? Are you getting the right quantity of nutrients, vitamins and minerals? Are you getting enough absorbable protein? How about cleansing? When was the last time you did a healthy nutritional cleanse?
I will PM you some info about what I use. It has made all the difference in the world to me.

I'm not sure what the solution is to this, but I have heard that this is very common with people who work in the food industry. It happens when you handle fruit. Do you peel oranges or bananas a lot? It almost sounds like athlete's foot on your hands.

I'm sure your dermatologist will be able to prescribe something for you, but there are lots of home remedies you can try first -- like soaking your fingers in Listerine or using Noxema on your hands before bed. Good luck!
