OK - this has NOTHING to do with being a mommy, but I have been blown away by how much info and wisdom all of you have, so I thought I'd throw this question out there.

I need a remedy for fingernail fungus (it's for me!!) - I've done some research on it, but there are so many suggested remedies and products, it makes my head spin. I would prefer to not go on the anti-fungal medications prescribed by doctors given that there are some serious side effects. Although, I'll do that, if I need to.

I am most interested in hearing from someone who has had personal experience with a remedy - either for themselves or a loved one. Thanks in advance!! M.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Just a quick update in case anyone else out there has fingernail or toenail fungus!!

The water/bleach solutions worked! I soaked my finger in a small solution of water and bleach for 5 to 10 minutes every evening for about one week and it's GONE. I can see the healthy nail growing in at the base and the skin around my nail is a healthy pink. Thank you to all of you!! You guys are awesome.

I have a fungus on my toenails. My doctor said to soak for 15 minutes in warm solution of 1/4 cup bleach and 1 gallon water. Keep the nails short and cleaned. After soak, rub vicks or use fungus spray and cover for 15 minutes - overnight. Do this every day for 3 months.

I know people who have done it, but I have not yet. Seems to work well.

Good luck,
T.

Hi there!
I am so sorry you have this. It SUCKS!! I would know, I had it from when I was 12 to about 15. I had it on my toes and fingernails. I was SO embarassed and had ways of always hiding my nails. My mom is really natural and was always trying different things (for years). ABSOLUTLY NOTHING worked. I went to a natural doc and he suggested tea trea oil ( good for preventing fungus but NOT curing) it did nothing, we wasted lots of money trying different things. Anyways! I finally got on Lamisil. One pill a day. Within four months all my nails were grown out beautifully!!! I even skipped several days of taking my medication and it still totally worked! I have not since had ANY hint of nail fungus. Lamisil gets it out of your system! I had my blood tested once a month to make sure I wasn't reacting to the medicine. I am now 22 and my nails are BEAUTIFUL! I know a few people who have had similar experiences as me and lamisil was the only anwer. Ask the doc about it. For me it was SO worth it.
Just my two cents! I felt that I had to warn you about all those "get rid of fungus" methods and products that Do not work and just sap your money. My mom didn't like for me to be on medication, but I had NO side effects and have not been on any medication besides that my entire life and ever since. LAMISIL!
God bless! ~K.

I had a fungus on my thumb nail about 10 years ago. I soaked it in bleach water (equal parts)daily for a week or two and its been gone ever sense. It did take awhile to know for sure that it was gone, because you couldn't really tell until the nail completely grew out.

Good Luck!

I don't know why, but Vicks Vapor Rub works on many fingernail/toenail fungus problems.

hi M.,

tea tree oil will work wonders on the nail fungus and on everything else you could possibly think of. my household is never without it. it is a natural antibacterial/antifungal. just clean the affected nail well and drop the oil onto it, saturating the area. don't cover the nail with any bandage, as the area needs to breathe. you can also supplement your diet with porbiotics to boost your immune system. i would recommend acidophilus rather than yogurt, the concentration is much higher and it has no sugar, which feeds fungus. i hope this helps you. i know it has worked wonders for me. it's my first aid go-to for everything!

OK well I have heard many "remedies" cut your nail back and soak in 1part bleach and 2parts hot water, vicks vapor rub, the paint on anti-fungal ect ect. You have two real choices, the topical ( the stuff you put on the nail or skin) remedy only works if you get it under the nail, meaning clip it as far back as you can stand and apply said treatment however this doesnt always work or it may come back. The oral works much better, it attacks the fungus from the inside, killing it completely, it takes about 3 -6 months. You are concearned of the side effects, well honestly the fungus is not going to be detrmental to your health and you could live perfectly fine with it. So if you want it gone I would honestly recommend that you see your doctor and ask him/her to prescribe you the oral medication. Good luck :)

Hi there....I am a nail tech and I wanted to share that vinegar is also a great way to deal with fungus. You now have it dormant in your body.... the lightest bump can cause it to flare up......if you soak at the 1st sign of sensitivity you can keep it controlled. I have clients that have had it (in toes) for 40 years..they soak every day 10-15 mins and whalla! It is cheap , effective and not as harsh as bleach. Try it if it get irritated again.

Melaleuca oil is a natural anti-fungal. It is affordable and will work to cure that fungus without the horrible side effects of the marketed drugs.
