I don't have fine hair, nor is it stick straight (it's wavy, straight, and frizzy and just normal thickness - not fine or thick). But it is flat and lacks body. I have to blow dry it every day or else it looks horrible. Then after I have a baby, I lose a lot of hair, and I've been wanting to find something to provide more volume.
Anyway, recently (last couple weeks) I've been on a quest to learn how to give my hair more body and look a lot fuller. Here's what I do!
Look into Big and Sexy hair products (lovely name, eh?). These are the ones I have:
- Big Sexy Hair Spray & Play Volumizing Hairspray
This really works better than any other hairspray I've used to give volume. I'm not sure if links work, but try this video to tease your hair in combo with this hair spray & it'll help give you lift and a fuller look.
Just in case the link gets taken out, the video is on youtube and is called:
"Volume Hair Tutorial - [fuller, bigger hair!]"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7XrITcEDTuw&feature=fe...
- Big Sexy Blow Dry Volume Gel
I even use this with hot rollers (which I will talk about further down). I wasn't sure if it would work since I'm not blow drying my hair. I'm guessing it's heat activated or something because it's awesome stuff. My hair is much fuller.
- Big Sexy Hair Powder Play Volumizing & Texturizing Powder
This stuff is like magic. It's a tiny bottle with powder in it. You only need a small amount. You use it at your roots. I couldn't figure out how to put it on, but it works to sprinkle some on your fingers, flip your head down, and rub the powder in at the roots. It isn't greasy at all. It somehow gives it lift and makes your hair look so much thicker/fuller at the roots. It's fun to use. And, it's totally worth the price for the small amount! It's amazing stuff. I LOVE IT.
If you are blow drying your hair, use a really big round brush and blow dry it with that, doing it in sections - blowing your hair over the brush to give it a lot of lift - then try what she says in the video I listed above.
Also, consider looking into hot rollers. I use them in my daughter's hair (and mine) to give her more body. I use really big curlers in her hair if I don't want it to actually curl her hair. Her hair is just past her shoulders, so not very long. It'll really poof it and give it much more body. It looks great & is fast!
Here are the two roller sets I have (I'm including names and links, that way if links are removed, you can search on amazon for them):
Conair CHV14JXR Extreme Heat Jumbo and Super Jumbo Rollers
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00005A441
- These are the super big rollers. They will give a lot of body. I'll use them in my hair (using the gel I mentioned above the night before after I shower. I go to sleep with wet hair, then wake up and put rollers in my hair). They really give a lot of body and lift. If the top of my hair still seems flat, I use that powder I mentioned above, and it does amazing at giving it lift.
BaByliss Pro BABCHV21 Ceramic Instant Heat 20-Roller Set, Varied
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002NGMEQC
- These are smaller rollers and do better curling the hair.
I bought both sets because I wanted the option of just mostly body/big loose curls (first roller set I listed) or to have the option to curl my hair in curlier (like the 2nd roller set).
I put them in my hair like this video says to do:
Name of video: "Beauty How To: Soft, Sexy Curls with Hot Rollers"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQFI0g9pAfk
If you need more details on how I do it all with the rollers, I left a review on the first roller link I sent (the Conair one). If you look at the "most recent reviews" on it, I should be one of the most recents. I'm "TC from Dallas".
I've been feeling so girlie the past week or two! It's been fun having hair that is thick looking, looks great long (it's just past my bra strap), and is fun to style. I usually pull back my bangs (they are as long as the rest of my hair), into a clip and then the lose curls go around my shoulders and it really looks good. I can brush them out to make it mostly just body.
I hope this helps some! I HIGHLY suggest the Big & Sexy products. They really do their thing with the volume and body. Good luck! Let me know if you have questions:-)
