Finding the Right Lip Color

I have tried for years to find a good lip color. I try something at the store, but after a few uses or seeing myself in pics, I realize it just isn't the right shade for me. I am getting very frustrated. I have dark brown hair and yellow skin tones with medium skin color. I am somewhat tan, and have green eyes. The closest thing I have come to liking is MAC Varneesh, but some days that is a little too pink for me.

I tend to do a smokey eye and emphasize those, so I don't want to do too much on the lips, but I need color, especially for pics. Any suggestions on finding the right color and brand for me? I do like MAC!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I should have added - unfortunately, it will not be any time soon that I can make it to a MAC or SEPHORA store, so I would really like to try and order online!

I too have dark brown hair and yellow undertones, and I use nars dolce vita, mac viva glam, and l'oreal hip in reserved. If you like mac go to their store or counter and ask them! Have them try several different colors they think would work to see which of those you like best.

Make an appointment at Sephora to have one of their makeup artists work with you. They have tons of brands available there, and sometimes having someone who does makeup for a living, pick some colors for you to try is the best way to find something that truly works for you. It may take them an hour of trying different looks on you, but chances are very good you'll walk out of there with a color or two that will work really well for you. Good luck!

well you sound gorgeous and you have the perfect name for choosing a lip color. I love all Nars lip colors. If you like pinks you need a yellow/orangey undertone. A Nars counter or MAC rep will know what to do. You'd probably be gorgeous in a hot coral as well. What ever you try on tell them you need to see it in natural light and walk to the window. Even better whatever you try take a pic with your phone for instant results. If you don't want to go too expensive both covergirl and L'oreal have come out with gorgeous pinks. I have dark hair almost black, tan now because of the summer and hazel eyes, Italian. I wear fushia when I don't play up my eyes and wear a pink with a rosy tint and gloss when I am smokin' the eyes. Have fun!

I have a virtual makeover program available on my Mary Kay website. You can upload a self picture or use an existing model. I do recommend trying out the Raisinberry lipstick. If you want something thin and glossy, try out the Sweet Raisin, Berry Sparkle or Fancy Nancy lipglosses. I do LOVE the glosses, they're LOADED with vitamins. I do service all 50 states, so if you need a consultant, I'll be more than happy to help you out or send you samples. We also have a 100% satisfaction guarantee. If you're interested in trying the virtual makeover, I'll be glad to PM you the website.

I do a beige/pink lip with lots of gloss. I think it actually looks better then color on me. Happy hunting for the right color!

I love the CoverGirl lip stains that look like a marker. Super easy to apply, long-lasting, and you can use one coat or build it up for more color. Top with lip balm or gloss. I also feel like everything I put on is too much, but they have a lot of nice shades that just pump up my natural color.

go to Dillards and have a Clinique makeup consultant do your makeup. I actually like Clinique lip stick which is the only product I actually purchase in their line but it is good lip stick and last a long time.

Use a gloss or chapstick with a tint- or just a clear gloss. I personally don't care for lipcolor.

Best luck, hun!
