Finding Out Boy or Girl

okay, I accidentally deleted my request. I was wondering if I should have a private ultrasound done to find out if we are having a boy or girl. During our 2nd trimester ultrasound the baby was hiding and we couldn't see a thing, the tech at the hospital wasn't very nice she was really rushed and didn't seem to care. The doctor said she doesn't need to schedule another ultrasound, because everything is going perfectly right now. Insurance won't pay for another one until 27 weeks either and the Dr. said if I want she will order another one then, but I would have to request it.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

After reading the responses and sleeping on it for a few days we are now feeling very excited about the possibility of waiting to find out. I didn't realize the baby feels the ultra sound, but it makes sense as they used u/s waves when I had some muscle damage in college. It makes sense because the baby seemed to be hiding from the u/s waves. it covered its face and slid into a tiny ball. I'd hate to think the baby was being aggitated by the u/s. I'm going to just go with the flow. :)

If your doctor is willing to sign the release, try stork snapshots. http://www.storksnapshots.com/. They have packages specifically tailored to find out the sex...i think they are pretty reasonably priced. I hated the surprise myself and always wanted to know - i am an obsessive planner (which made me very good at my job when I worked as an Executive Admin. Asst.) and always preferred either pink or blue for layette and nursery. I always hated the yellow and green stuff, though now they've wisely added beige as a gender neutral design option in nursery and clothing as well.

I always drank an orange juice or had a sugary snack before my ultrasounds to make sure they were active :)

good luck!

I know it must be hard when you really wanted to know. I wanted to know too and we were lucky to find out. But I suggest just going with the flow and BE SURPRISED!!!! The important thing is that the baby is healthy and no more ultrasounds mean that things are going well and you have a healthy baby growing inside you :)

I did not want to know. I was fun picking out names for girls and boys. Decorating the babies room so it could be for a boy of a girl. Just enjoying the whole pregnancy waiting for for our bundle of joy.

My option is wait... and enjoy being pregnant...

We had the private 4-D ultrasound done and it was an amazing experience. Plus we had a DVD and pictures to keep of the whole thing. It is really cool. I highly recommend it! We used stork snapshots too!

First let me say Congratulations!!! I am a mother of two girls, and what a joy it is. I can understand your anxiousness to find out the sex of the baby, however, from my experience with the birth of my second daughter, I was watched very carefully with that pregnancy, and I had three or four and I truly believe that it stresses the baby out. It was the last one that put me into actual labor and I delivered her a month early. Now I did have some other complications that necessitated the ultrasounds, but I certainly think that having more than is necessary can stress the baby out. Think about it, and proceed as your heart tells you. Good luck, and enjoy your new little blessing.

Hi P.!

I do not know what I would do in your case. I know back 19 years ago with my son we did 2 ultrasounds and the Dr insisted I was having a girl. I told him there was no way it was a girl and I was having a boy. Well, I am so glad I never bought pink outfits... I had a boy! The Dr was shocked!

With my daughter almost 2 years ago now I had 22 ultrasounds during my pregnancy. I was very high risk! They never could tell for sure since she was always playing shy when they would do it. They did tell me by the heart rate that they believed I would have a girl the majority of the time but 2 times they said it was possible for a boy. I did end up doing an amniocentesis and I found out she was a girl that way!

If your Dr is willing to order another one go for it if it is important to you to know the sex. Just be prepared that he or she may be modest again and hide what is or is not there! lol

Good luck to you in finding out the sex! I hope your wishes come true and that he or she is healthy!
Many blessings!

Ok.... I just read Jennifer R's post! DO THAT! Wow does that seem awesome! Now I wish I could have another one just to see all that is going on and what the baby is doing! lol That would be such nice pictures compared to the typical ultrasounds you get from the Drs office! Curious to find out what you decide now!

Hi and congrats. Withour first daughter we didn't want to find out but, with the second one we just had to know and the same thing happened at our us and we couldn't find out the sex. I probably couldve waited but my husband wanted to know. I went to stork snapshots and they were great. We didn't do the 4d us because we just wanted to know the sex but we did have a long look and we got some great us pics of our second little girl. the tech at stork snapshots said she was 99.999% sure it was another girl and she was right. It was a neat experience. Best of Luck!

I am a mother of 2 and I had the pleasure of having an ultra sound for both of my children and it was actually a wonderful experience. During the ultrasound for my first born, he actually gave us quite a show, he was moving around and at one point it seemed like he was playing with the tech, every time she pressed down with the wand, he would kick my stomache in the exact spot that she pressed down..we all laughed because the exchange happens 2-3 times. With my younger son I had about 3 ultrasounds done because I was having early contractions and it was so amazing to me to see through the ultrasound pics how he was developing. I have put the pics in their baby books, I thought it was a great experience. You should really have another one ordered and hopefully you will get a tech who will enjoy the experience and excitment with you.Good Luck!

You could get one of those 3D-4D ultrasounds for about $100. They are really cool and could probably tell you the sex of the baby easily. Congrats!

Sometimes insurance companies limit payment for additonal ultrasounds, so I would check with yours first. Personally we waited to find out the gender of our baby until he was born mostly to have the big surprise factor on birth-day. I feel like we were in the minority (most other parents I know found out at ultrasound). We just wanted to focus on having a healthy baby, and not get too wrapped up in whether we needed to focus on PINK or BLUE - that's just the extra, material stuff that wasn't important to us. And sometimes the US is incorrect (I heard of a woman who went overboard with a Hello Kitty-themed nursery, only to bring home a beautiful baby boy).

From what it sounds like, your doctors office to way to rushed and hurried. They should have DEFINETELY given you more time and the chance to look. Call your doctor, ask to talk to the nurse and tell that nurse exactly what you posted (I read the one you deleted). Tell him/her that you'd like to have another one, and see how many your insurance covers. If you are not happy with your doctors lack of taking the time with you now...it will only get worse. Trust me, I've been there! You have the right to tell your doc that you are not happy and if it doesn't get better, switch! I did!! I am very happy with my ob/gyn now. Good luck!

If the doctor can order another one at 27 weeks I would do one then, it would probably still be paid for by insurance. If you do one privately, it could be costly. I would ask for the next ultrasound at 27 weeks, I wanted to know with both of mine. Sounds like you didn't have a very understanding ultrasound tech. Good luck!

I'm sure you're so anxious to find out the sex of your baby! What an exciting time!
Even though at this point your OB is saying that there's no need for another ultrasound, that could change later on during the pregnancy. I was told the same thing at 20 weeks and then my OB decided at 30 weeks to order another one because the baby was measuring small (turns out she was just laying sideways inside my belly).

I know it's so hard to wait to know the sex. With my first child, we found out the sex at 12 weeks, which is highly unusual. So when we didn't find out right away with our second, I got really anxious and wanted to know the sex so badly : ) Sometimes they just don't cooperate during the ultrasound. Sometimes the tech just cannot see the sex parts tomake a determination. The most important thing is that baby is healthy and that the ultrasound technician takes all the proper measurements... Between two pregnancies, I've had more ultrasounds than I can count, and I've never been given the chance to just watch the baby longer or get up and walk around to get the baby to move... If you felt like your tech was rushing, it was probably only to keep up with her appointment schedule. There's nothing worse than having to wait in a waiting room for over an hour because each appointment before yours is taking forever. Try to be patient : ) Sounds like your OB will be happy to order another one at 27 weeks if you want one.
