Craigslist, Zillow, Trulia, Realtor.com should be good places to start. Or if it's such a small town, simply driving around looking for signs might work, too, as Marda suggested.
Alright. I have always just "stumbled" on houses lol. How do you find one either for rent ( which is proving almost impossible) or that is selling. My sister is looking into the realitor in town. ( I work while they are open) but it seems like rentals are not listed with them. We are looking to get a house together as her husband relapsed again and took of to KY. Maybe its just stress but I dont know what to do this time. I feel like a domesticated cat stuck in a rain storm... Lost!
Any idea's from small town people as really, there is a difference!
Thank you ladies. I am so grateful for the ones who answer when my brain just wont work!

I thought Craigs List was the way to go for rentals now
newspaper
craigslist
drive around and look for rent signs
How small of a town? Is there only one realtor? If so, ask them how to find rentals. If not, ask at other realtors. Read the want ads if there is a paper. Post an ad. Drive around and look for "For Rent" signs.
If local realtors don't carry rentals and if there is a larger town/city nearby call realtors from there. If there's no local paper, look in the paper that covers your area.
You can set all sorts of filters including renting.
In the past, I have driven around looking for "For Rent" signs. You can also check your local newspaper or Craigslist.
If you have any management companies around you, that would be a good place to start for rentals. You could check the paper and Craigslist too, just watch for scams on CL (if it sounds too good to be true it probably is!).
As far as rentals go, you can also look at homes listed for sale and contact them about whether they will consider renting. Especially for houses that may have been on the market awhile, this may be an appealing option for sellers who are trying to cut down on the expense of two house notes.
