It can be very itchy. My oldest had it it was flat and looked like a sun burn
Can a fifths disease rash on the cheeks be slightly itchy and has some bumpiness to it? Also, can it be small patches of red on the cheeks or was your child's entire cheek red? Thanks

My sons had bumpiness with a blistery look to it. I don't remember him scratching at it. the school thought he had chicken pocks but that was defintely not it. I think they said to use peroxide 3x per day. Its been awhile so don't quote me on that.
When my son had Fifths Disease, his cheeks had patches of a slightly bumpy rash that was itchy. It would also come and go. There really isn't much need to see a doctor, once the rash appears he isn't contagious anymore and there is little that the doctor can or will do.

Fifth disease (as in the fifth identified childhood disease) is also called 'slapped-cheek' disease. I think the idea behind that is the rash is usually on the cheeks and appears as if the cheeks were slapped. Really poor imagery-I'm sorry if I offended. Best to get it checked out by pediatrician. Good luck.
When I got it in high school, my friends told me that my cheeks looked really red - my best friend (a guy) didn't say anything because he thought I just used too much blush that morning. It started up on my cheekbones, then slowly spread downward.
By the end of the school day, I could feel bumpiness along my jawline and throat - it was also getting itchy at this point (minor itching). The inside of my lips were also swelling (noticed this during band practice trying to play my flute), along with my earlobes (probably everything, but those were the easiest places to notice). The swelling is probably a major cause of the itchiness as the skin stretches.
By bedtime that night, the bumpiness and red had spread into my chest, but not solid.
I don't think you're going to look at your child and suddenly see bright red, whole cheeks. It'll start patchy and likely spread.
I'm sure it could be itchy. My son's body was itchy and not necessarily the face. And his entire cheek was red...almost as if he had a fever.
