Wow that's a lot of meds. I take Lyrica, 1 in the AM and 1 at night. My med really helps me. I still have pain but it is easy to live with.

I have recently been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia by two different doctors. I am going to go to a pain management class in the next couple of weeks to help me. So far my doctor has put me on 2mg of vallium 3x a day, celebrex 200mg 1x a day, and cybalta 90mg-30 in the morning and 60 at night. For those of you who have it, does that sound like a good treatment plan? I do feel better, but I am having a problem sleeping through the night, without hurting. It has been really bad the past few days, today being the worst, i felt like every joint and muscle in my body ached, and i could barely move.... even my toes ached!!! Never had my toes ache before lol. Anyway, I think I have been so bad off this past week because I have been going non-stop and my body just finally broke down and said no more. So today I am not going anywhere or doing anything because I think I need to rest :) What are good ways to help your body not hurt anymore when the meds aren't helping calm the pain? I know the meds don't take it away, but normally they help me be able to function. I just need some ideas to help calm the pain, it was suggested to me to take a nice warm bath, but wouldn't that make me more inflamed and make it worse? Thank you in advance to helpful suggestions!!!

i am a celiac and have come across a lot of posts on celiac forums of those who were mis-diagnosed with many different diseases (FM included) who were actually celiac. their symptoms disappeared once they cut gluten out of their diet. i would try that and see if it helps. what can it hurt, right? some symptoms clear up quickly while it takes longer for others.
Ihave FM too. There were days where I couldn't even get out of bed because the pain was so bad. But I have two small kids so I knew I had to find a way to get past it. I am not one to take meds unless I need to and try to go the natural way whenever possible. I found that the only med that helped with my pain was Vicodin. But what has helped the most was determining what would set off my FM pain.
I did an indepth food allergy test (IgE, IgA, and IgG) about 6 months ago. I have had food allergies my whole life, but was shocked to find that I am now allergic to all wheat components, all dairy components, Lima beans, blueberries, and all egg components. Once I eliminated them from my diet my pain has gotten MUCH better. Over the last two years I have also tried to stay away from the natural inflammatory foods....tomato, potato, soy, eggplant..there are several others, but these are the ones that affect me the most.
I have been seeing an Integrative Health Specialist (a trained MD also trained in Holistic Medicine) for two years now. Her name is Dr. Roya Kohani in La Jolla. She was trained by Dr. Andrew Weil. As you know, every person is different and every doctor and what and how they prescribe is different. I have been suffering with chronic pain for years, most of my adult life actually. I now work with a pain clinic in a hospital and they have me on methadone and Lyrica and I am finally able to live my life without major pain. But it took me years to get to this point. Not every doctor is agreeable to heavy duty medication like I am on, but thankfully my doctor is very compassionate and understands that living your life in such pain that you can't function as a normal person is not really living your life.
I find that meditation really helps me calm myself and center myself, have you tried or considered that? I used to love massages, but now I can't bear to have people touch me, it just hurts too much. Accupuncture didn't really work for me, but it's worth a try if you haven't yet. Definitely doing more makes things worse for me as well, I've been in pain since the week before Christmas from overdoing it. Rest and rest some more, then get some rest, lol. Naps are great if you have time for them. Good luck, I know how you're feeling, it's certainly no fun. :(

C., did you know that fibromyalgia didn't even exist 30 years ago?
I believe in education not medication. All disease starts on the inside. They ALL come from an imbalance in the body. Drugs do not balance the body, all it does is fill in the holes with synthetic bandaids.
Educate yourself on what fibromyalgia does in your body and learn NATURAL ways to deal with it. Feed your body the right foods, vitamins, minerals and nutrients and you will notice that it will heal itself. Find out what is going on inside and start the healing there.

Get some Styrofoam cups and fill the about 3/4 full of water then freeze them. When your pressure points are inflamed take a cup out of the freezer and peel off the top until the dome of ice is completely exposed. Have hubby or someone rub the ice over the pressure points and they will start to feel relief very quickly.
Another way of reducing inflammation is by getting in a cool swimming pool, join a water exercise class at the Y or somewhere. The weight of the water and the coolness all over the body really helps get that pain under control, again by reducing inflammation.
Wet heat is the best non-med treatment for pain. It has always work for me and anyone else I have known that has arthritis or fibromyalgia. I have controled rhuematoid arthritis and controled fibromyalgia. I take meds for the RA but non for the fibro. The best medication you can take is sleep and rest. It is at it's worst when you overdo your physical activitity. Slow down a little and let yourself heal.

I have heard people get releif from both Neurontin and Lyrica. I would as your doctor.

Unfortunatly my mother suffers from the same illness, along with RSD, and a history of back fractures. At times the pain becomes so unbearable that all she can do is scream and cry. She has been on a duragesic patch for pain for a while now. It is a med called fentanyl. Here is a link about it... maybe you could ask your doctor about it. She likes the fact that she does not have to take pain pills all day, she just switches the patch every three days. Thats it. She occasionally takes percocet for breakthrough pain, but that is rare. I am sure it is not for everyone, but it is worth asking your doctor.
She also takes Lyrica, which is often used for fibromyalgia. Good luck, it does take quite a while even with the pain management to get everything set to the right levels to keep you as pain free as possible.

Wow, be careful with the Valium and Cymbalta, those are anti-anxiety and antidepressants. The last thing you need is to develop dependence on those mentally in addition to your pain. I know, because I have been on different anti-anxiety and anti-depressants and I wish the doctors had NEVER started me on them, because getting off is really hard.
I have a sister in law with FM, and I also have inflammatory issues. Believe it or not, light exercise really helps. You just have to be careful not to overdo it. I suggest walking fast enough to get your heart rate up, but without jogging and putting pressure on sore body parts. I surf, but I have to keep it under an hour or so, or I pay the next day in pain and tiredness. And I walk twice a day up around the neighborhood which really helps.
