My cousin was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and she is in pain everyday. Does anyone have any tried and true remedies or other ways to deal with the pain? Has anyone ever been diagnosed and then later come to find out that they didn't in fact have it, but something else?

Excersize, exercise, exercise!! Fibro is usually the body's response to toxins or damage! Have her cut out ALL processed food, alcohol, chemicals etc and she has to force herself to exercise EVERY DAY. She will feel SOOOO much better. Also heat from a jacuzzi or heating pads can help as well. Unfortunately the medical community's solution for fibromyalgia often includes norco or tramadol and the patients sit and pop pain pills and limit their movement and things just get way worse! It is very easy to overdiagnose fibro because there are no definitive tests for it, just certain pain points. Regardless, even if she has something else, if her body is in pain there is an inflamatory response going on and this can be helped by improving diet and overall health.

I have fibromyalgia. I do a lot of yoga. Lifting weights and working out at the gym actually made things worse for me and brought back old injuries. It's frustrating since I used to work out all the time. I can't jog because it's too hard on my joints and muscles. I've always had chronic migraines. I have gastric problems related to the fibro; I have to avoid my favorite healthy foods that have lots of seeds in them due to early onset diverticulitis/diverticulosis.

The yoga helps. I avoid high sodium foods. I avoid artificial sweeteners. I avoid things I'm allergic to and things that trigger my eczema (common with fibromyalgia). I drink plenty of water. I'm waiting for my rheumatologist to accept my referral (I was already diagnosed by two other doctors).

I've had these and many, many more symptoms since I was a teenager. I could fill a journal with the symptoms. Symptoms that only recently have made sense now that I have the diagnosis. I've always been immuno-compromised on top of having the muskuloskeletal problems, and the fibro is the only thing that fits. No matter my change in diet, lifestyle, whatever... it just gets worse. It got dramatically worse with every pregnancy.

Getting enough sleep can help. Eating well can help. Staying hydrated. Avoiding stress as much as possible.

I'm certain it was inherited on my mother's side of the family.

Google fibromyalgia diet. There are some foods that really set it off and others that help with inflammation. Has she been checked for lupus? It can have the same symptoms.

Did they check her Vit D levels because if they are low they can cause the pain of fibro. If pain is her only symptom then its probably not fibro.

I was diagnosed 2-3 years ago and most people don't even know that I have it. I don't take anything for it.

I have 3 friends who all suffered from fibromyalgia for years and they all totally have gone back to normal by not eating the ingredients listed on this webpage: http://www.msgmyth.com/hidden_names.html

Here is the main webpage if you cousin wants to read about this. They talk about fibromyalgia in these webpages. And there has been medical research about how this really works/helps with those who suffer from fibromyalgia. For some reason a lot of doctors are not very clued into this yet:
www.msymyth.com

I suffered from aches and pains, stuffed nose, sinus issues, spaced out feelings, puffy eyes, and major horrible migraines until I stopped eating all these things too. It's like a miracle bc I don't have any problems at all now!!! I am so so so happy I found out about this. I have felt great now for 5 years. :) :) :) Tell your cousin she should consider giving this a try. I first did a 2 week elimination diet and after that I totally avoided all those ingredients. It is hard at first but then you become a pro at it!

Tell her to start listening to www.kcm.org ministries. They talk a lot about healing. I have not seen a 100% healing. But I have seen about an 80% reduction in pain and I'm waiting and seeking the rest of my healing :) I've struggled with fibro for many years. I feel for her. Tell he to study everything but not to leave God out of it.

I used to have fibromyalgia. I went to an MD who also used alternative treatments and I went on a strict diet for months and eliminated wheat, sugar, soy, grain and dairy. It was HARD, but the pain was gone.
I have added foods back into my diet, but I still try to limit grains.

I hope your cousin finds something to help her manage! The yoga suggestion from Jessica is very good. Netflix has yoga on instant view if that helps your cousin.

Ice is my friend. I was told by a physical therapist to fill a Styrofoam cup about 2/3 full then freeze it. The water expands during the freezing process so it will have a dome on top. The person takes it out of the freezer and peels away the top portion of the cup so that the dome is visible. Then someone takes the ice and rubs the pressure points that are inflamed. I have the worst right around the backs of my arm pits and back.

There are some really good books out there about fibro now too. I think that Lyrica is the only drug advertised anymore. It does cause some side effects that should be watched for, like increased depression behaviors. It is a good medicine, it numbs the nerve endings along the shafts so the pain doesn't transmit to the brain. The anti-inflammatory drugs help too.

My mom was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and instead of taking the medication they prescribe which can cause suicide she went to a naturopath doctor. He was able to help her and in fact does not have Fibromyalgia. I have come to learn that Fibromyalgia is a diagnosis that doctors give when they cannot figure out what is really wrong. My mom had 2 weeks left to live according to 1 doctor and she is healthy, not in pain, and found out that she was allergic to wheat and dairy. Which those allergies can cause pain as well as many other things wrong in a body. I hope this was helpful to you and good luck to your cousin.

i've learned that eating healthy, well balanced meals, keeping stress low, and low-impact exercise really helped me. I haven't been on any meds some time now. i still do get the occasional flare up, 3-4 times a year but thats gonna happen when your a mother and have a fulltime college and work schedule. Also, in colder climates, long underwear is a must, shifts in weather patterns can affect you too. good luck to your cousin

I know that I have worked with people that have been in a lot of pain. Sometimes people have trapped emotions that they don't even know about. They can come from their own experiences or they can come from parents or grandparents. Its not your fault, it just happens. I know how to clear away this emotional baggage and hopefully get you out of pain without the help of medication. private message me, I'd love to give it a chance.
