P.,
I don't have Fibromyalgia, but I used to go to a chiropractor that did a lot of research on it. He found out that most people that have it suffered severe trauma in their neck, (whiplash). There are ways of defeating it with adjustments and nutrients. I hope you get rid of it. I hear it is no fun.

I don't have fibromialgia, but the company I represent was founded by a man whose wife had it terribly (among other things). He did a lot of research and formulated a blend of 9 sea vegetables and aloe and his wife made a full recovery after a few months of taking the blend. It's called Body Balance and has helped a lot of people w/many different health issues (and overall vitality). You can learn more about the products and the story of the founders, etc. here:

Let me know if you have any questions...

Hope this helps!

I have fibromyalgia, was diagnosed in 1996. I have 4 beautiful children 16-son, very soon to be 15-daughter, 10-daughter and very unexpected almost 4 month old son (handsome I might add. I am 35 years old.

About 5 years ago:
I found the book "What your Coctor May NOT Tell you About Fibromyalgia" to be very helpful. It is written by R.Paul St.Amand,M.D. and Claudia Craig Marek. In the book it talks about taking Guaifenesin to help with the symptoms. So I went to my doctor book in hand and asked she said it was worth a try so we did it. You can buy it over the counter it is called Mucinex. I took one in the am and one in the pm. But that is the dose the dr came up with. I was a little sceptical but wow what a difference. I didn't believe it was doing that much till I stopped for a few days and that is when I could tell it was working. Less pain and more go time. It didn't help me sleep but it sure helped in other areas. I am a true believer. My suggestion is read the book and investigate it yourself you will be glad you did.

I am a mother of a 9yr old and an 18 yr old. I was diagnosed w/FMS in 2002.I was on several different pain pills and finally was not able to work as of oct 2007. In Nov 2007 I read a book called"what your dr won't tell you about Fibromyalgia"written by Dr.Paul Saint Amand and Claudia Marek. This book and the protocol it suggests you follow HAS CHANGED MY LIFE. I started the protocol and followed it to a T in Nov 2007. In two weeks I am returning to work and am only on 1 pain med. This is truely a miracle after pretty much being in bed for most days before the program I am on now.PLEASE get the book(got mine at hastings)There is also a support group on the internet called www.fibrohugs.com and is full of wonderful support from others with FMS who are following this simple program in this book. It has worked for several thousand people and does not require any type of prescription drugs.
WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO LOOSE BY TRYING IT? Nothing but the pain!!!!!! Best of luck

I'm sorry you have FM, my younger brother has it and so does my sister in law. His is worse than hers, but then she tries to stay active and not over do it, because "you" pay for it the next day with trigger point pain in different areas that were overworked. I have a best friend who also has it really bad. The girls say mild exerice is best and my brother says narcotics and anti depressiants don't work and make you just "out of it" although he does take something to help him sleep. Check to see if your local hospital or clinic has a FM clinic. Good luck, D.

Hi P.,
I have had chronic headaches for the past 6 years coupled with low back pain, upper neck pain, and joint pain. The doctors kept trying to tell me that it was fibromyalgia, however, my neurologist kept insisting that it was chronic daily headaches and not FM. I am all to familiar with dabilitating pain, and can 100% sympathize with you. I am so sorry that you have been dealing with this for so long. I too have been unable to get help for my pain. I recently started seeing an accupunturist who I swear has saved me...I also started shopping with a company that uses all safe, helathy, natural, and environmenttaly safe products. Everything from bath and body, cleaning, vitamins and supplements, make-up, and pretty much all your household needs. They have had lots of success with treating people with fibromyalgia and other chronic illnesses as well as people with asthma, add, ezcama, and allergies. If you are interested in learning more about this store and how to get thier products, please let me know. Also, if you want any of the testimonials I would be happy to send them to you. Good luck with everything, and know that we are all thinking of you. All the best.

Yes! I am 35 and have had fibro since I was about 18.It literally crippled me and I was bedridden for a long time. Well until about 3 years ago when I found a holistic physician who finally worked with me to get me better. I tried every possible treatment out there and nothing worked until I got with this doctor. People usually want to know what I did to get better but when I tell them they aren't willing to do the process and work it takes to get better. You have to be so sick that you are willing to literally "sell your soul" to get better........and this I did. Sometimes when I get angry and that toxic energy gets stored up in my body, I get achy. When I process the anger through, the pain leaves. Plain and simple as this. If you would like to know more please feel free to send me a post.

My mom has had it sence she was about 22, but doctors kept mis-diagnosing it till she was about 35 i think. She did spend a year or so in a weelchair at 22ish. Now her pain is undercontroal, it took several medication combinations, but she lives a normal life where she can do anything she wants now. Hope things work out for you and you find a good doctor!

Hi P.,
I know that FM is extreemly painful and frutstrating because of the lack of medical help for it.
One of my best friends and her mother both have been dealing with FM for quite a while. Her mother was practically dibilitated from the pain and had cut back most of her activities because of it. Both of these women are now almost fully recovered from FM and are feeling so much better. The key was better nutrition in the form of a whole food product called Juice Plus. In only about 3-4 months on the Juice Plus capsules, they began getting quite a bit of relief. Check out the website www.madjuicer.com to get more information about Juice Plus. Juice Plus does not claim to cure FM or any other disease, but I have seen so many people get relief from their illnesses after starting Juice Plus. I will say that they had tried every other kind of medication and therapy they could find with no relief until they started Juice Plus. FM, like many other auto immune diseases, has its start in inadequate nutrition. Vitamin pills don't work, as the body doesn't know what to do with the isolated, fractionated vitamins. The body does know what to do with whole foods that include all the nutrients in their natural combinations.
I wish you the best of health. ____@____.com

Hi P.,
Yes, I do have fibromyalgia! How long have you had it? I have had it for longer then the doctor would like to think, but the doctor finally decided that I had it about three years ago. I am in my 50's, and I do not have a day that I am not in pain. Some days are worse then others. I don't know how much help I will be to you, but maybe we can help each other. I know several people who have it, and there are so many different things to try to help the pain. It is really a trial by error type of thing. I can get some relief from a hot tub, or hot shower. Body message is good for me. I tried a heat lamp, and it only gave me a little help.....I am still trying to find the best of many things. I don't think anyone knows what it is like until they have it themselves!!!

Hi P.,

My mom has suffered from fibro for years before it was clinically diagnosed. She has been through it all so here is what I've learned throughout the years:

- There is not one cure for all. Some people respond differently to treatments. If something isn't working for you, be proactive and make a change.
- You'll fall into one of two groups: those that cannot bear to be touched because the pain is so bad and those with the desire to be massaged so hard that it leaves bruises (but it feels really good in the process).
- Rheumatologists are not the correct type of doctor to be handling fibro patients.
- Yes, pain meds are addictive and can cause rebound flair ups that are worse than the previous flair ups.
- Almost all fibro patients have an emotional component that goes along with the physical ailments that needs to be addressed as bad as the physical symptoms. Be open to counseling or psychiatric care as well.
- A clean diet and regular exercise are critical to your well-being. A toxic diet creates a toxic body.
- If your primary physician poo-poos any alternative or homeopathic remedies or fails to believe you when you say you hurt, find another doctor now.
- Read all you can and be open to anything. You never know when or where you'll find your next break from the pain.

I've researched this a lot for and with my mom. One book that I recommended to her after hearing it briefly described on Oprah one day is Pain Free 1-2-3 by Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum. I believe he also has another book called From Fatigued to Fantastic. They both deal with nutritional deficiencies that are relatively easy and inexpensive to fix. My mom has had great success with the personalized recommendations in these books.

I hope that you're able to find some relief and find what works for you. Good luck!

I'm a little late to post...but I have fibromyalgia also. I was diagnosed in '95 I believe. I was a sophomore in high school and had been in a car accident in July of '93 so I believe it was triggered from that whole ordeal. I battle constantly with headaches and I haven't really done anything for myself lately other than a few visits to a chiropractic (I had severe pain in Feb.) My youngest turns 2 on the 14th. My boys are 3 (soon to be 4 on May 6) and 5. I'm also a sahm and full-time online student and I'm so tired of the pain and fatigue! Arghhh My mom keeps telling me to call the Pain Clinic in Boulder but somehow I keep forgetting. ;)

My Dr. thinks I might have it. My mother suffers from it and it runs in the family. Sometimes my body aches so bad and I have done nothing that it should be that way. I know that depression is also a symtom.
Exercise is suppose to be a way of counteracting symtoms but when you don't feel good it is hard to be motivated.
Why do you ask?

Hi P.,
I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia 4 years ago after being in a serious car accident. One of my doctors described it to me as chronic fatigue syndrome with pain which I thought was pretty accurate. I went to several different doctors, physical therapy, and tried all kinds of medications with very little relief. I could hardly get out of bed. About 2 years ago I started going to acupuncture and it was amazing. I had my energy back and my pain level was low enough I could control it with alieve. It might be something worth trying. Good luck.

Yes, I have fibromyalgia, have found some great help, on line.
Am a 59 year old woman who was diagnosed last year, after years of no one knowing what my problem was.
Am currently taking Lyrica, 2 capsules twice a day and excedrin or advil, 2 tablets twice a day.
I refuse to go on prescription pain medication at this time, because I see a future with more pain than I have now.
The Lyrica does help, but it bloats you and makes it harder to breath, no matter what your doctor says, those are some of the side effects.
I have asthma so I take more of the inhalers to help.
So in the long run I would rather take the Lyrica and have less pain, than not take.
The pain never goes away for me, but we live in a garden apt. and it is up and down stairs constantly.
Really hot showers help loosen the muscles up for hours at time.
And getting a good massage helps the pain and stiffness tremendously, but money is an object there.
Anyway, good luck P..
I won't baby myself, though at times I just want to sit down and give up.
Keep a daily journal that you can look back on and see what helps and what doesn't.
This is still all new to the medical profession and they are learning from us the patient.

As I said, I am a 59 yr. old woman with grown children, 10 grandchildren, and a disabled husband.
But I see you have plenty of help.
So again good luck, hope some of this helps.
Oh the Excedrin and/or Advil do help with the pain also. So I take them both twice a day.
Unfortunately the pain never goes away.

Hi P.,
Yes, I have fibromyalgia, I am 44 years-old, 5 children, daughters 28, 21, and 12, sons 27 & 18. I also have 5 grandchildren, boys 11, 5, 2, 4 months, granddaughter 3 years old. I love them all dearly!

My 12 year-old daughter is the only child living at home now.

My 28 year-old daughter has also been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, and my 53 year-old sister too. I suspect my mother had it too, but back when she had her problems the doctors didn't recognize fibromyalgia at all. She suffered from a lot of pain, and was treated poorly, like she complained about everything. I remember somebody calling her a hypochondriac (spelling?). I deal with degenerative disk disease with my back too and see a pain management specialist for both the fibro and the disk disease.

I would be glad to talk with you about this anytime.

I am 34 with 2 children (6 and 12), and I have fibromyalgia. I see a pain specialist who has me on neurontin for the nerves and morphine for the pain and percocet for breakthrough pain. I do light exercise on my eliptical because it is smooth and not heavy pounding on the body. I plan on seeing a rheumatologist to see if they have any different thoughts on the disease than my pain doc does. Fibro is genetic, my mom 61, and sister 37, also have it. I wish you lots of luck and would be more than happy to give you my doc's name if you want. Also, Lyrica is another nerve med, but it has many side effects that my mom, sister, and myself all experienced. I had no side effects with Neurontin.
Good luck,
