My son has been running a fever. It started on Sunday with a fever at night of 102.5, I stayed home with him on Monday because I didn't want to get the daycare call, he didn't get a fever all day, then Monday night, again fever 102.2. This morning his temp was 100.3 I sent him to school. I don't know what to do or what this it, it seems to only get high early evening, night, and during the day he is fine. I can't afford to stay home with him, nor can my husband. He did the same thing last year, but then I had the time to stay with him and it was only for 1 day. I don't know if it is the weather or allergies or what? Has anyone had this happen or advise or anything please?

So What Happened?

He seems fine now, no more fevers. I did check his ears; he has tubes in so I do know when he has an infection and there wasn't anything there. Thank you all for the advice.

It is not uncommon for fevers to spike at night; ussually if a fever runs more than three days, the peditrian will want to know. Of course keep an eye on his energy level, appetite, and any other symptoms he may be having. He could also be teething (if he hasn't got his second set of molars yet), but fevers associated with that are ussually lower. I know a lot of respiratory and ear infections have been going around. If he has a fever again tonight, I would reccomend calling the Ped; they may want to see him.

Our immune systems get tired by the end of the day. That is why when you have a cold you always feel your worst the later part of the day. If your son has had a fever this long you should probably take him to the doctor and not send him to school. When a child has a fever it usually indicates contagiousness. You do not get a fever with allergies either. He probably has a virus and it will either resolve on its on or he may break out in a rash, such as Roseola. Keep him home and call your doctor.

Fevers usually go a little higher in the evening, so that's normal. He probably has a virus, but could also have an ear or sinus infection. When my daughter gets a cold she usually has a low-grade fever for a few days.

I am not sure. We are struggling with the same thing. I called our ped. office and they said that as long as energy is up, dirty diapers and no other symptoms that ours is probably related to teething (my kids are 23 months). We have had a couple of hours of no-energy, when temp spikes to 102+, but then she is fine. This has been really mind-boggling to me. If your child does have a fever, I would still recommend keeping him home. I have just about every allergy in the book. Fevers are not associated with allergies.

Fevers are always higher at night but get his ears checked. My daughters ENT doctor said that a fever can be a symptom of an ear infection and you would never know otherwise.

I would give your ped a call. Strep Throat has been going around with the only symptoms kids having is a high fever...easily treated with antibiotics.

Keep an eye for a pattern over the years. I daughter had "mystery fevers" for 4 years---turned out to be her tonsils.
