My daughter is 2 years old (26 Months) and woke up this morning with a fever. She seemed fine otherwise but she had a slight temperature. We played it by year and she seemed normal within an hour of getting up so we just went about our day. Then she went for a nap after showing no sighs of wanting anything for lunch and woke up again with a fever. This time we gave her some childrens advil and went about our business. At about 6:30pm- 7:00pm she started to get wonky and just way more tired than normal so we tried to get her ready for bed as per our normal schedule and she was almost dilerious. Granted she was acting really really tired and not herself but she had a damn fever again. My husband said she sneezed while I was in the shower and a bunch of boogies came out but they were all clear and that was the only sign of a cold that she had - which is really not much to me. Anyway I was hoping that you smart Mommas had a clue as to what could be causing the fever with no other symptoms other than tiredness.
Thanks in advance

Our ds has been doing the same thing. Doctor said there are viruses that can cause it. If she runs for 3 days, take her to the ped (our ped's rule of thumb anyway)...or if she spikes 104 or higher. Hope she feels better soon!

Does she have her 2 year molars yet? My daughter gets a low-grade fever and sometimes runny nose on-and-off whenever she gets teeth. She's almost 2 and only has one of her 2 year molars and it took FOREVER for it to finally come through. Also, it might be the Advil that's making her sleepy? May want to check in with her pediatrician if the fever lasts more than a few days. Hope she gets to feeling better soon :(

How old is she and how high is the fever? Could be anything. Viruses are going around so bad right now because the weather won't stay a consistent temperature. With her being tired, it's her bodies way of sleeping off the virus.

As another mom mentioned it could be Roseola. And yes they get a rash almost immediately after the fever has broke. Watch carefully because RSV is going around right now too and this is very dangerous. Any kid can get that and it's horrible for them. Since she is running the fever and breaking it, it's a partial good sign. Her body is fighting what she has off. Just keep an eye on the temperature and call your doctor to see if they think she's ok for the night. But as most of us mom's will tell you, only you will know if your daughter needs the ER. When my oldest had croup a long time ago, the dr said she was fine and just needed to wait for the steroids to kick in. We ended up in the ER later that night and she had to get a breathing treatment because of her croup. It was awful, but she fought it off and ended up being ok.

Good luck and I pray she is ok.

There are viruses that can cause high fevers. Roseola being the first thing that comes to mind...a virus that the primary/only symptom is a high, HIGH fever but when the fever breaks, the child breaks out in a rash.

I would say that the fever is not the only symptom, but her tiredness/energy level is a big clue to me that maybe you should think about taking her in. There are viruses, and there is nothing drs can do about those, but at least you will know it isn't something more serious (and I don't even know what that could be).

My son always gets HIGH HIGH (I'm talking pushing 104) when he is about to get a new tooth...but that seriously is his ONLY symptom. He acts fine, no other symptoms, just the fever. But the fact that your daughter seems lethargic or more tired than usual tells me that something else might be going on.

Remember, Mamapedia is a social network - we are not doctors, and we are not your child's doctor. For true peace of mind, I recommend contacting a professional. :-) Good luck!!

Let her rest and keep an eye on it. The first response to call the doctor if it lasts more than 3 days or the fever goes over 104 degrees sounds like what my doctor would say too. Once my son had a fever for a few days but no cold symptoms and had an ear infection (in May).

It's just a virus, just because we have a temp doesn't mean something is wrong. It is just a virus and that's all there is to it. She probably is achy, but obviously just can't tell you so that will come across as tiredness and fussiness. It's really ok.

If she doesn't eat that's ok too, just make sure to keep her hydrated. A virus can last as long as 7-10 days, but most usually last 1-3 days. In the final days of it you may see no fever during the day, but maybe spike a little fever at night, there again it's ok, her body is still ridding itself of the bug. You can alternate Tylenol and Advil every 3-4 hrs.
