hello,
i have a 20 month lil girl and yesterday she started running a fever the highest reaching 102.4,but was still very active, wetting diapers and eating.this morning she awoke with a low fever 99., and by the time she got to my sister's house she had developed a rash on her arms, face and stomach and the fever reached 102.5,we went to the dr's and was told it was just a summer rash and to give her benedryl if it seemed to be bothering her. at the dr's the fever was 100.5 but arriving home about 45 minutes later it was back to 102. the tylenol brings it down only for it to shoot back up in a few hours, after a bath the rash is now all over her body and she is grabbing her neck alot. i want to take her to the er because the summer rash anser is just not cutting it for me, i have great insurance so i am taking her as soon as my husband gets home to watch my 3yo, but has anyone experienced anything like this.

What can I do next?

Hi!
Both of my children have experienced symptoms like you are describing. After going to the doctor's we found out it was strept throat. The doctor prescribed Amoxicillian and the rash & fever went away within 2-3 days. You may want to ask the doctor if it could be strept. Good Luck. I know having a sick child is no fun.

Sounds like roseola to me. All three of my kids have had this before. They start out with a fever and then once the fever goes down, a rash breaks out on their body, starting on trunk of the body going up and down. I have found that with high fevers, tylenol doesn't work for my kids at all. I use Motrin for them and it works fine. You can alternate between tylenol and motrin and see if that helps. Hope everything goes well at the ER.

Hi I am not a Doctor but it sounds like it could be a couple of things. Roseola and HFM are two it could also be a virus and the fever is causing almost like a prickly heat rash. Both my kids get a little rash occasionally if they run high fevers. My docotors told me it was just a way their bodies reacted to the high fever. As for the Tylenol, I give both of my kids Ibuprofern once there fever is over 101. The Tylenol doesnt seem to work with fevers that high. There is infant Motrin you could give her. I dont think SUMMER RASH is the best diagnosisfor your daughter, and I think you are right for taking her to the ER. Good Luck.

It is most likely roseola, which is a rash that starts with a fever. It will go away on its own. My son has had it twice.

I would take her back and ask for a throat culture. Some Symptoms of Strep throat, rash, high fever, nausea or vomiting (although you may nt have this symptom), headaches, a few others. My son just got over strep and everything you said in your post seems to suggest this, he had the same symptoms. Just a thought. Hope she feels better soon, poor little one.

My daughter had something similar not as a high fever (101) and it was this summer virus that is going around and just has to run its course. Hopefully it is just that and not anything worse. But you need to do what you feel lis right for you and your child. I did not take her in and now she is fine.

It almost sounds like it could be hand foot mouth disease. This occurs in the summer months. Watch to see if she develops blisters in her mouth although some children dont show all the symtpoms of HFM. It's a condition that just needs to be beat on its own since it is a virus. HTH

Sounds like Roseola - all three of my kids wnet throuh it as infants. It starts as a fever for a couple of days - sometimes high - and then develops into a rash that starts on the chest and works its way up and down. There is not much you can do for it other than some Benadryl or Tylenol to make them more comfortable.

We had a similar situation last week. My son had bright pink cheeks on Father's Day. By Monday the rash had spread to his trunk, back, arms and legs. Took him to the dr, they did a rapid strep test, which came back negative and decided it was fifth disease. Since that's caused by a virus there's nothing to do. However, on Wednesday of last week, I received a call from the dr's office letting me know that his culture came back positive for strep. It's better to be sure than not and if you're not satisfied with your dr, do what's best for you and your daughter. You can never be too careful!

Best wishes!

try and put her in the bathtub with aveno bath(oatmeal) it will dry up the rash and stop the itching. my son used to get heat rash alot when he was little. the fever is another story she could have a virus. infant motrin works alot better and keeps the fever down longer.. make sure you give it to her aleast a 1/2 before the next dose is due so there is no lasp in time between doses. i used to wake up my son to give him his next dose if he was sleeping.

My 13yo had Scarlet Fever, which sounds alot like what your describing. Never complained of a sore throat, started with bright red cheeks and then a rash that spread from his neck all the way down his trunk and arms. I hear that Scarlett Fever is going around.

Did they check her for strept throat? Fever, sore throat and a rash is scarlet fever. My son had it last year and never even said his throat was bothering him. They put him on antibiotics and he was fine.

My 2 1/2 year old son had the same symptoms and it was roseola. There was no meds for it and it cleared up on its own. It lasts about 3 -5 days. As long as he is wetting and bm and in a good mood, just keep doing the fever reducer. I was told to alternate tylenol and motrin every 2 -4 hours. They don't interact with each other b/c they are different types of meds. Hope your little one feels better soon.

My daughter had rosiola when she was about 21 months but the rash usually develops after the fever is gone. Tends to be a fever for a few days then a rash. She is now two and i just had her to the doctor this week for a fever she has no rash but i kinda got the same answer that she just has a summer virus. Hope everything went well at the ER.
