Fertility Concerns

This is very difficult for me to discuss, but I am wondering if any of you have had infertility problems. We have an amazing 19-month-old son and always wanted to have our children fairly close in age. It did take us over a year to get pregnant the first time, but we did end up getting pregnant without the use of fertility drugs. Knowing that it may take some time to get pregnant again, we started trying about 1 year ago. I have been working with an OBGYN for the past 4 months and just finished my second round of Clomid. However, after 2 attempts with Clomid, I have still not ovulated (according to blood tests). I am just wondering if anyone has had to deal with this and how you handled the emotional stress. I thank God every day for my beautiful son and am trying not to stress about getting pregnant again, but it is very difficult. Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you for your time and for listening!!!!

Hi K.,

If you have been trying for a year please consider going to a reproductive/fertility specialist, there are many excellent ones in the Atlanta area. They will monitor you much more closely that a regular OB/GYN will/can, run important tests to rule out/in various issues and will make a plan specifically for you.

We (successfully) used RBA - Reproductive Biology Associates, they have several locations and are really good about working with you on your insurance issues.

Another facility I've heard good things about is Georgia Reproductive Specialists:

Good luck, I know how stressful it can be.

K.,

Welcome to GA, from one West Coaster to another. We moved here from Burbank/Glendale almost two years ago.

Without directly asking, if you are in your 30's, it might be time, if you have not already, to consult with an RE. As I have experienced it, Clomid is like the first step in fertility treatment, but given that you don't seem to be ovulating, and if this has not yet been done, I would ask about having your FSH level checked. This test can often tell more about your cycle than just not ovulating can.

I personally recommend Donna Sessions, MD of Emory University's Center for Reproductive Medicine. I give it up to her for helping us, after 2 IVF cycles, and 6 Clomid-assisted IUI cycles with other practitioners, to have our 2nd child, a little girl born in April of 2007.

I am 43 years of age, so fertility was definitely a challenge the 2nd time around. I delivered my daughter at the ripe old ageof 42.

I also suggest Li Hua, L.Ac out in Sandy Springs. If no one has yet suggested this, acupuncture treatment can have a direct positive affect on fertility issues. Anyhow, Dr. Hua is both skilled and extremely compassionate and gentle. If those qualities make a great team member on your fertility fight, she's got them in spades.

Good luck K..

K.,
There is lots of support around Atlanta for families dealing with fertility challenges. I highly recommend Resolve of Georgia - through that organization you can find information on treatments/options and connect with other couples going through treatment as well.

I had similar issues after getting pregnant with my first easily. I took clomid to conceive my daughter.

Have they raised your dosage of clomid? I took the minimum 50 mg day 5-9 but know many women who ended up needing 150 mg a day to bring on a good quality Ov.

It is very stressful. I suggest finding an online message board for fertility support. I have met many great moms online going thru similar experiences.

I live in Johns Creek too. I have a four year old and two year old. Send me a message if you are interested in maybe a playdate.

I am with you! It took 3 yrs, a lot of clomid, and 3 IUI's before we became pregnant with our now 18 month old blessing of a daughter. So, we have not prevented getting pregnant since her delivery. But we start clomid next month for assistance. My dr this time is only giving us 3 months of clomid before referring us for IUI. Financially, we are unable to go the IUI route right now. So we are asking for a lot of prayers that we become pregnant in the next few months. Emotionally, it is just difficult. I don't want to sugar coat it. Before it was a big elephant in the room. But now, I am going to focus my energy on my daughter and know that when it is our turn, God will provide. Try to keep your relationship with your husband fresh and not just about making a baby. Otherwise, it can become a chore to be together. If you can go away for a weekend for relaxing....that will help in more ways than just conceiving! If you need anything, or want to send a personal request feel free! Good luck!
