Feet Feel Numb in the Morning and Achy Joints?

This may have something to do with the last question I just asked with my Sleep Number bed or maybe not, does anyone wake up with numb feeling feet and achy joints in the morning? Seems to get a little better as the day goes on.

I have a generic sleep number bed and absoutely love it. Really... it saved my marriage. I need a really hard bed and my husband likes it really soft. I'm sure you've tried adjusting the number, but if you haven't, try going from hard to soft. Don't rely on the store's fancy evaluation.

Do you happpen to see a chiropractor? I have two boys myself and I know with all the lifting and turning and bending and chasing after them, I'm miserable if I don't get into see my chiropractor. I can tell right now I need to go because my fingers and toes are tingly and my hips and neck are achy. If you're interested, I see a guy on Grand Ave off of Snelling. If you don't do chiropractors, I would really suggest getting a nice full body massage. I know it seems really self-indulgent. But taking care of young children is hard on your body... so is giving birth and recovering from it. You need to take some time for yourself.

I don't know about the sleep number bed, but have you had your thyroid levels checked recently? I was having problems sleeping, was feeling fatigued, had muscle and joint pain in my hands and feet (especially my pinky finger for some reason) and muscles, and several other symptoms--turned out to be hypothyroidism. Just a thought!

I suspect Krystle might be right about the poor circulation. I know my husband is always complaining about aching joints, and I think the problem is mostly when he wakes up. I think he also has some numbness/decreased feeling in either his arms or legs or both, and it takes him a while to be able to get up because he feels like he needs to get some circulation going.

I don't have a sleep number bed (actually wish I did - sorry you hate yours), but I do know that waking up with numb feet and achy joints in the morning (or after long periods of sitting) have to do with poor circulation. It gets better as the day goes on because your movement and body positioning help your arteries and veins get the blood around. The only way to get rid of poor circulation problems is by improving your circulation - which means exercise. I don't mean chasing-your-kids-around-the-house exercise. I mean working up a steady sweat for at least 30 min/day 4-5 days/week exercise because your heart rate is elevated. It sucks, I know, but when I went through this shortly after my twins were born (and after 5 months of bed rest) I started doing working out and my problems have vanished.

I'm sure sleeping on an uncomfortable bed doesn't help your body circulate the blood - so it could be that the bed isn't helping you either.
