Hi, I don't know if anyone else has had a problem with this but I have a problem with my feet being rough. It's only around my big toe, mypad below my toes, and on my heel. I've tried things that peels away the dead skin, one that moisterizes, and saoking them and using a file but the next morning there the same way they were before. I can't afford to go see someone to get this helped through prescription so does anyone know anything you can buy over the counter that could fix this problem?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I've tried the soaking and the stone and it only smoothes them out for a short while until they dry and as far as the soaps I use body washes that contain softners but it doesn't help any. I don't think it's b/c I don't get enough water but it could be that I always am barefoot or walking around in socks unless I have to go somewhere that requires me to put shoes on. I don't even wear shoes if my trip doesn't require me to get out of the car. I plan on trying a few of the suggestions some of u offered with the over the counter creams and maybe even the oil and wrapping them. I wear toe socks so wearing socks to bed won't be a problem for me...I just had given up but thanks and I will let everyone know what worked for me.

I've got the same problem - if I go more than a week without taking care of my feet they will start cracking and bleeding from the dryness. I usually pumice my feet every time I shower and use vaseline on the really dry spots. My doctor has told me that the more I wear open heeled shoes, or go barefoot, the worse my feet will get. Good luck!

First file, then try a dead sea salt scrub and moisterise heavely before bed and wear socks to sleep. Do first two steps once a week and the rest at least every other day.

Flexitol Heel Balm works wonders! You can get it at Wal-Mart. I used to have absolutely disgusting feet with huge cracks in my heels. I tried everything just like you, then I got Heel Balm. You just need to make sure you use it regularly; at least once or twice a day.

Hi C.

I've just joined this website & saw your email on dry feet. If you haven't had any luck with all the wonderful people that responded to you, may I suggest one more. I'm diabetic & I've found a foot therapy cream that really helps mine. It's called DiabEase Foot Therapy Cream by Masada. They have a website: www.diabease.com They carry some wonderful items specially made for diabetics with dried cracky skin. Visit their website & view all their items. I've used this cream which has a stimulating, protective moisturizer & its made a difference in mine. Also had my cousin try it & he loves it. His feet were in worse shape than mine. Hope you have some success. Take Care. D.

Hi C.,

Sometimes water( acidity) can be very harsh to the skin, particularly on the hands and feet. I suggest you change to a soap that contains cammomile/aloe vera, this help to mantain natural moisture in the skin. Another great product is shea butter, this keeps emollientency/moisture trapped in the skin, and is specifcally used for dryness. Advice: Soak your feet in luke warm water, dry your feet completely dry, then apply shea butter, once applied put on a pair of socks, which help to trap the oil. If you find that these are not helping, it may be that your not consuming enough water within a day ( 8/8oz glasses), or it is possible a medication/food allergy is causing you your issues.Remember always wear something on your feet. Going barefoot is not a good idea.I hope this will be helpful!

Good Luck
S.

C. - try a product made with Emu oil. I think the name of the one we have is 'Blue Goo'. It is available at WalMart in the foot care section. It a small, squat bottle with a blue top. I think it is called Blue Goo but I know it says that it has Emu oil in it. My husband and I both use it and it works really well. Try to use it everyday or at least every other day and you will see a big difference! C.

I went through much the same thing except mine was the big toe and heel . I spent a fortune on lotions , creams , and every home remedy I ever heard of . I soaked , scaped and rubbed to no avail . Finally I tried Curel(original formula)lotion and I no longer have the problem . I don't know why this one worked when all the others didn't , but it did . I could tell a difference within a few days .

My podiatrist prescribed me a urea cream to use. It works really well. I don't know if there is an over the counter product similar to it or not. Ask your pharmacist.

Sounds like you are doing the right things to keep our feet moisturized. Try wearing socks or footies after you put the moisturizer on. That will keep them moist and soft. Drink lots of water. If you are diabetic, you should have your feet checked out for the dryness. I use "utter cream". You can buy it farm supply stores or Walmart. Sounds funny, but it works. I have gorgeous feet!

Before you go to bed put some olive oil on them, wrap them loosely in saran wrap and put some socks on and sleep on them. It works great for me, my mom, and three of my aunts!!

Hi C.. I recently started my own soap and lotion making business and I would be glad to help you find a formula that works on your feet. Where do you live? (I'm in Cartersville--just work out of my home) My mom, who has diabetes and constantly cracked heels, had wonderful luck with a rich cream I've made that contains Shea butter, Goats milk, Calendula, Tamanu oil, jojoba oil and emu oil--I could let you try a small container of that and also add some of the other suggested substances (e.g. the mint and eucalyptus oil, which I have in supply) to customize it for you. Just let me know. My web site is http://www.greenberrysoaps.com--click on the link on the left about the Calendula Tamanu cream.

I used to have the worst feet ever especially in the summer. I started using the foot care stuff from Bath and Body works and now I can go a couple of days with out having to worry. I wear flip flops everyday so my feet would dry out and start to peel. The only thing you have to make sure you do after putting on the creme is wear socks to bed. It can be really annoying but your feet will feel so good in the morning.

good luck

i think some people just have it worse than others. Have you tried a pumce stone in the bath? or lotion up your feet and put baggies then socks on your feet to go to bed. Have you tried getting pedicures where they shave the skin off?? It works for me for a little while but they always go back to being rough.

Hello C.,
I had the same problem a while ago and the only thing that help me was a cream that I bought from Avon named intensive cream for crack heel. I used to use it every night. Hopes this helps.

PS: I also used vaseline and wear socks around the house to keep it moisterize.

If all else fails, try some of the old natural remedies.

Johnson and Johnson's Baby LOTION mixed with spearmint oil and eucalyptus oil, about 5 drops each to 1 oz of lotion. Mix well and use for 3 days. You'll definitely see an improvement. (you can google the different oils to find a supplier). Wear nothing but cotton socks until they are completely healed. Make sure they are WHITE only - the dyes can get into the cracks in your feet and cause infection.

A pumice stone helps but with some people it's not beneficial. I know when I use the stone in the shower after my heels are softened, I tend to take off more than I should and can't wear my shoes the next day. Same goes for a heel razor. Be careful that you don't shave too much skin off or you'll regret it the next day.

DO NOT USE THE OIL CONCOCTION IF YOU HAVE ALLERGIES TO GRASS or eucalyptus! Experiment with the mixture! This mix is very soothing but I wouldn't use it on my face (of course, I have roscea so just about everything works in opposite on my face.)

Yes! I have the same problem! I never did before, but in the last couple of years, they're always rough. I have tried everything, even the expensive Kerasil and stuff. The ONLY thing that has worked for me is Burt's Bees Coconut foot creme. Put it on at night, wear socks (if you can) to bed, and in the morning they're softer. If I keep up with it, they stay soft, but I'm pretty lazy about it. However, even the overnight improvement is amazing. And when I get it into doing it every night, in just a few days, they're soft and pretty again. Good luck!

Hi C.,

My husband has insanely dry hands since he spends lots of time outside, with work and play. My father gave him a bottle of Corn Husker's Lotion, available at the drug store, and it made his hand's so soft he quit using it, because he "felt like a girl." I use it on my feet now, and they are so soft! It's a strange looking bottle, but it really does work! Good luck!
