My DD is just about four months old and just when I thought I was getting the hang of this parenting thing she throws me a curve ball.
Over the passed few days I've noticed that her right eye appears to be crossed at times. I thought she was over this newborn eye crossing thing...is it normal for it to reappear or to still be lingering?
I also noticed today that she seems to only push out one side of her tongue when sticking it out..neurotic thing to notice, I know...but is that normal? Is she just finguring out how to use it?
Help!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Her right eye is the one that seems to cross and she sticks out the left side of her tongue. My ped does seem to act like I am overly concerned...she's probably seen it all, I've seen jusy my DD so everything is new to me.

I appreciate the reassurance. One week until our ped visit. My hubby still thinks I am just seeing things. I will hope the ped says the same thing!

J., I agree with what many of the others have said. Keep a journal and if something concerns you talk to your doctor about it. After all that is what they went to school for. I learned after my daughter was born that there are no stupid questions and if your doctor is a good doctor he/she will do everything they can to put your mind at ease and not think you are neurotic. Every parent has those moments when my now 8 year old daughter first started to walk she pulled a wooden kitchen chair down on top of her and got a big nasty purple goose egg on her forehead. She of course stopped crying after a couple of minutes but I promptly strapped her in the car and rushed her to the doctor. He reassured me that she was fine and that a similar thing had happened to his son (the same age) the week before. They are now both in the same class and healthy as can be. It is important to note if it's on the same side, is it there all the time or come and go, does you DD have a good appetite etc. These are the questions the doc will probably ask. I'll say a prayer for you and I'm sure everything will be just fine. Don't worry about feeling neurotic, we all do it. I've had a child before but with this pregnancy I find myself freaking out over the smallest thing so there's a bit of this in all of us. lol

My pediatrician gave me very good advice when my son was a new born: if you have a concern, always err on the side of caution. If it turns out to be nothing, no harm done. She said call WHENEVER you want, and no question is a stupid question...they are all questions that are made out of love.

Best wishes!

ASK THE DOCTOR
Keep a log of this with your child too to document this concern.
Some PED docs sadly blow off new mom concers, cause they feel we all are too up tight (yes I had a doc say that to me when I had concern for my son not talking and soon enough we found out he had autism---yes I was jacked and yes I DID drop that doctor)

So yes.............be concerned and keep a eye on the child and write it all down to show when you noticed it and and if there is any change for better of worse.

Call if you are really freaked out.

good luck

Hi J.! You're not neurotic-you're being a good Mom who is concerned about her baby's well-being. Your baby is still developing, still learning. But I would mention these things to the pediatrician during your next check-up. The baby's vision and reflexes can be tested to be sure she is developing normally.

Dear J.:

It would probably be a good Idea to make an appointment with your pediatrician as this could be nothing i.e. just a normal experimentation on your Daughters part, or it could be indicative of something neurological going on. I do agree with the Mom who said to keep a journal.
You did not mention if the tongue and eye thing are same sided or not. That can tell the Doctor a lot.

If you want to talk PM me and I will see what I can do to help.

Take care, you are not neurotic you are a good Mom.
