Feel Pregnant, but Know I Can't Be

The past couple of months have been really wierd. I have felt like I was pregnant- had some symptoms, but know I can't be as I had my tubes tied (they put a clip on, not cut and burn) during my last c section. I have had tender breasts, nausea, cravings, tiredness, and lately cramping. I have already had my period for this month, and for the most part, it was normal. Last months wasn't normal- shorter and lighter than usual (a couple days shorter, and almost like spotting)and everything has been normal gastro-intestinal wise. But definately in the past few days had pain in lower abdomen similar to cramping. Any one have anything similar? any ideas?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I called the doctor, who told me to take a test. I did, and it was negative. The doctor didn't think that my sypmtoms were unusual enough to require a visit, so, I guess I will just wait this out and see what happens. Thanks for all the advice.

Not sure if this might have something to do with it but I ran across something that you might want to look into. It's called post tubal ligation syndrome (PTLS). It is not recognized by most of the medical community yet but many many women are complaining of the symptoms. Look it up and see if you don't show some of those symptoms. Good Luck! Shannon

I had my tubes cut & tied in Jan 2003, just hours after my daughter was born but still had 2 pregnancies since then. Both were ectopic & ended in miscarriage though.

That happened to me last year around this time, and I to knew there was no way I was preggers because hubby has vasectomy. Anyhow, it turned out to be an intestinal infection which landed me in the hospital on X-mas. I did not have stomach pain, but I began feeling really run down, nauseated in the morning, etc., and then it progressed into back pain, and then it progressed into back pain that felt like back labor, which is why I went to the E.R>...I thought I had a kidney infection as did the doctors until the did a CT scan to rule out kidney stonesor appendicitis, which I also did not have. Turned out to be diverticulitis which is rare in younger adults, but even rarer for it to present with my symptoms. Anyhow, I would give your doctor a ring, they can do a CBC to rule out anty sort of infection/illness. Feel better soon.

Those could all be symptoms of your period coming on too. If you are unsure and you are close to or past the date your period would come, then take a home pregnacy test. Even though you had your tubes tied, you never know what could happen. It's better to know if you are pregnant again, so you can be safe about what you eat, etc, than to not know or aviod it. Good luck to you!

I've never experienced this. But I have heard of women getting pregnant even though their tubes where tied. Sometimes you can have your period when your pregnant also. Have you done a pregancy test? But beware their not always right, when I was pregnant with my now 1yr. old I took 2 pregnancy test and they were both negative I had to have a blood test to see if I was pregant and sure enough I missed my whole 1st trimester I was in my 2nd. You may also be experiencing a false pregnany, again I've heard of women having all syptoms of pregnancy including weight gain and not being pregnant. Either way I would call your OB/Gyne and get checked out. Good luck. Hope this helps.

Take a test, you wouldn't be the first woman to get pregnant after having her tubes tied. Then see your doc either way.
Good Luck!

My friends sister got her period for the first 3 mos with one of her kids. Baby was fine. I would just take a test, just to be sure. Or go to your doc, even better.

I also had mine tied after my second c-section. A couple of times I have had lighter periods that were a little late and freaked out a little because I worried that I might be pregnant. I have type 1 diabetes and had two difficult pregnancies and had my c-section rip back open in the hospital so had to stay a couple of extra days. I have two healthy children and felt that we should stop at two. It is still possible for you to get pregnant and you should definately talk to your doctor right away. If you are, it's a good chance of it being a tubular pregnancy. If the tubes didnt heal right when they did the tubal ligation, it's possible that an egg passed through and you could have a normal pregnancy. I guess, for me, if I found out that I was pregnant and it wasn't a tubal I would be both happy and totally scared. My youngest is now 2 1/2, so, I don't think there will be any pregancies in the near futur. Good luck to you!!!

I had the same procedure. I thought I was pregnant this month also. I also had symptoms. It was weird. But I waited to see if I got my period before I went and spent money on a test or scheduled a doc's appt. You may want to wait to see if you get your period and then panic. Good luck!

It is very possible you could be pregnant. It's happened before, buy a test and find out for sure.

Good luck.

It is possible to get pregnant after having tubes tied and also to have your period when you're pregnant, so if you need to take a pregnancy test to make yourself feel better, then it won't hurt anything.

Have you been breastfeeding? It could be your body's return to normal. Women also sometimes have problems with anemia and hypothyroidism after giving birth so those are also simple blood tests.
