Hello Everyone~ I have a daughter who is almost 11 months old. I wanted to introduce scrambled eggs to her. Can I use the whole egg or just the yolk or whites? Thank you!

What can I do next?

No eggs until they are 1 year old! Then try yolk, whiltes are more allergogenic, so introduce them a few days later. Everything hard boiled. No cow's milk, no honey in the first year of life. No nuts for the first 3 years of life (including peanut butter!). Try other foods instead.
Take care.

Hi A.,
Our pediatrician told us to start with only the egg yolk (hard boiled) at 9 months of age. After feeding that only for 4 days with no reaction, then add the white of the egg (the whole egg scrambled...not runny!) and try also for 4 days noting any reaction. If after that baby is fine, then eat away.

My doc told me my 10 month old could eat anything. Yes, anything since she has shown no signs of allergy. Ask your doc if concerned.

hi, many people say many different things, but a lot of ppl around me told me to just give it to her since she hasn't been allergic to anything (other then fabric softener sheets)i think i gave my daughter scrambled eggs (the WHOLE egg) by around 10 months. her dr. said it was fine to do as long as she could handle solid foods, just to make sure to wait until at least 18 months to give her any kind of nuts (although i wasn't told that until after she was 1 and i had already given her a taste of peanut butter...) thank god she didn't have a reaction. i would say just double check with her dr. if you're really not comfortable with the suggestions since everyone (including dr.s) have different opinions on when the right time is.

Hi A.,
My doctor told me to stick with the egg yolk for now. I can see why. Prior to him telling me that I gave my baby girl a little bit of scrambled eggs and she add a minor reaction to it. Her chin turned spotty red, it went away quickly. So for now the egg yolk is best.
Hope this helps.

Just the yolk and no more than 3 times a week is what my doc says. The yolk is a really good source of iron also. I feed my son the yolk b/c he is anemic.

if neither you nor your husband are allergic to egg then there's a great chance that neither is your baby. my pediatrician made absolutely no issue about yolk versus white when we started with egg at age 9m... this might be bcs our baby doesn't have any other food allergies. this may also be the case for you. if you're really worried, ask your doctor. if not, start slowly, with a little bit (even if she loves it). wait and see her reaction, usually you'd know by the next day with a food allergy -once the egg has had time to mae it's way thru her GI system and get absorbed. oh, just mae sure they are fully cooked bcs salmonella will illicit adverse reaction in any child!

Hi A.

I was afraid to try new foods with my daughter but I did give her scrambled eggs before she was one. She kept looking at us eating all the time and I could tell she wanted to try our food. I also made her pancakes which she loved. Then we started with soups and pastas. She is a good eater and tries everything now.

Both of my kids were eating scrambled eggs by 10 months with no reactions at all. Just be sure to have benadryl handy whenever you start with new foods, just in case there is an allergic reaction. My doctor had stated that it did not matter if it was whites or yolks only, an egg is an egg.

Just the yokes until after 12 months. The whites could cause an allergic reaction.

i would suggest you try her on the yok or egg whites seperate. introduce here to one or the other for three days to see if she has any reaction. ex diarrhea vomiting. a lot of children are allergic to eggs believe it or not. take care and enjoy your little they grow so fast.

Hi, when it was time to introduce eggs to my daughters, the doctor suggested to use a hard boiled egg and just give the white first, and then a couple of days later try the yolk. This way you know if your baby is allergic to either one. Good luck!!

Everyone had their own opinions on this, as for me I tried scrambled eggs with my son at about 10 months & he loves them! He has no allergies that we know of yet. I hear that you shouldn't give your child peanut butter, chocolate, or strawberries before 1 year, but my son has had them all (& will be one year this week) with no problems. We just tried the strawberries this past week, and the peanut butter he got ahold of his cousins sandwich! ha but at least the test is done! =) It's what you (& maybe your pediatrician) feel confortable with for your child. I don't think eggs are like honey, which can be dangerous to all babies. Eggs just may have an allergic reaction. (like many other things). Best wishes!
