Hi Moms,
I have a 11 week old daughter who has been on formula since she was 2 weeks old (Similac Early Advance Shield, premixed, not the powder). She was 6 lbs at birth and is now 11 pounds, 8 ounces. She eats around 5 ounces every 4 hours. My husband does her last feed at 11:30 PM and she sleeps until 6 or 7 AM. My question is the last 6 nights when she has her 7:30 pm bottle (after her bath) she drinks about 1 oz and starts crying. Sometimes I hear her gas and I have had to walk around with her to get her to eat and it takes over one hour and I have to turn on the vacuum to get her to take around 4 ozs. She does not do this at any other feeding. I have tried the gas drops. Any ideas why she is doing this at only this one feeding? I am thinking of calling the doctor. She has never had issues with this formula at any other time of the day. Any suggestions would be welcomed! Thanks.

Sounds like she is full. Try pushing back the 7pm bottle to around 8- 8:30 and then put her down for the night. I bet with that last bottle pushed back a little later she will eat better and go to sleep a little earlier. My husband and I use to give the last bottle at 10pm and our girls would wake at around 7. When they stopped drinking more than an ounce (@10pm) we realized that they didn't need that 10pm bottle and made the last bottle at 8-8:30. Worked like a charm and made all of us happy to have an earlier bedtime! :)

The same thing happened to my son when he was a baby. We switched to low iron formula for a couple of months and the problem went away. I guess the iron built up in his system throughout the day and it made him fussy at night.

I'm just making a wild stab in the dark but, hold off on the bath and see what happens.

I would push up her last bottle (give it earlier) and if you are concerned about her being hungry then add a little bit of rice cereal to the bottle. It may take some adjusting for her to eat it, but it should help.
