My mom thinks I am not feeding my child enough. She just turned 15 months. Her schedule is kinda like this. Up between 6-7 am had a 6-7oz bottle, then nap about 9 am and then cereal and a fruit and another 4-5 oz bottle, then lunch is a type of meat, fruit, veg stage 2 or 3 1/2 jars, then another 5-6 oz bottle and a nap. Naps from like 2-3:30 or 4, then a sippy cup of juice or milk, then dinner 1/2 jar fruit veg, what ever we are eating, and sometimes some water or jucie about 3-4 oz. Then about 7-8pm a 7-8 oz bottle. Sometimes we are up for one bottle in the night, but mostly no. Is this the right amount of food, enough milk?? Please note she is allergic to milk, and eggs at this point, so it is rice milk. Any ideas thanks...

Alison,

Well it sounds like to me that she is eating alot! At that age my daughter was only having two 8 ounce bottles of whole milk a day and her regualar 3 meals and 2 snacks. Shes a great weight for her height and never goes hungry. I dont see how much more your mother wants you to feed her! Is she a good weight for her age? If she is and shes eating everything regularly, I really dont see anything to worry about. Go by your instinct and how she is taking in the food and you will know if shes not eating enough.

I don't think the quantity of food is an issue. But how about finger foods? Is there a medical reason that she is still eating baby food? My son is almost 12 months, and he has been eating only table food for months now. Small pieces, of course. But he feeds himself 95% of what he eats! (Then again, he refused baby food from 7 months...so maybe he's not a good example!)

How about adding in breakfast after that first bottle- like rice crispies in rice/soymilk, and a banana and/or blueberries. (Just as an example.) And also maybe a couple of snacks in there, if she seems hungry.

But, of course, you are the mama! You know your daughter, way better than anyone else. Including your own mama! :) So unless your doc is worried, you should be doing what feels right to you.

Is she happy, healthy, growing well? If so, then to heck with grandma! (Yeah right, I know....welcome to the club...)

I have to agree with the other moms. She is getting plenty. But why is she still on baby food. My daughter is 17 mos and hasn't eaten it since 9 mos. Also, she should be way beyond stage 2s by now. She has the ability to chew regular food. I would also cut back on bottles. By her age you should be cutting out the bottles. Offer either a sippy cup or a strawed cup. My daughter gets 3 meals a day and depending on her naps a snack or 2 (morning and afternoon). She typically eats every 3 hours. I offer milk with her meals and juice (watered down) the rest of the day. Honestly it doesn't matter how much she eats. As long as she's allowed to eat until she's full and whenever she appears hungry. And as long as she gains weight you have nothing to worry about. My daughter hasn't gained any weight since she turned 1 so as long as she has a healthy appetite don't worry. But I'd start switching her to regular foods, she's old enough.

Your child is getting way too much fluids. I would cut back on the bottles and try more solids.
