Feeding My Baby Yogurt

I bought my 6 month old those yo-baby yogurts w/ a lil fruit and cereal in them. He does well on solids but my mom said that maybe I should not feed them to him until he is one. I eat yogurt all the time and let him have a taste, which he loves. When did you feed your baby yogurt?

What can I do next?

i fed my son all kinds of foods starting at 6 months of age. It's just based on what he likes and isn't allergic to. I started off buying the ones that are made especially for babies. I believe they are even organic. Simply give them to him on a day with foods you know he isn't allergic to. This way if he has an allergic reaction then you know its the yogurt. But I say go ahead.
good luck

At 6 months, babies should just be getting started on solids. I would hold off on the yogurt for at least a few more months to be sure he doesn't develop an allergy. If you are really questioning it, ask your pedi. They won't mind a quick call to confirm something like that. Better to be safe than sorry! Food allergies can be really tough to deal with later on.

I also fed my son yogurt when he was under a year (starting at around 7 months) and he too just loved it. But, he later (age 8) developed a dairy allergy. I don't know if that was the cause, but in hindsight introducing dairy that early was likely not a good decision.

My nanny kept telling me I should give my baby yogurt and I never wanted to thinking it was a "dairy" product and he wasn't supposed to have cow's milk until one year old. I waited and now he won't eat it! Yogurt is easier on the baby's system than straight cow's milk, so I say, give him the yogurt now if he likes it so that as he gets older he will have one more dairy food alternative! Good luck!

Both of my kids and many of my daycare kids eat those yogurts. They are so good for them. I don't remember when we started them, but I know it was before a year. Perhaps 8 or 9 months? I don't have any kids with allergies. Yogurt is so good for the digestive system. I'd just check with your pedi. to make sure he's not too young -then I'd go for it! :)

I am pretty sure you don't start yogart until they are 9 months old. If you need confirmation when to start certain foods go online to gerber.com they have a when to start solid guide. Also at you doctor's appointment they should give you some advice on when to start.

Yogurt (plain, unsweetened) was one of my children's first foods (before cereal). My extremely lactose intolerant child never has had a problem with yogurt. I'd talk to the pediatrician if I were you.

Hi there :) I remember feeding my daughter Yogurt at 8 months old... I now have an 8 month old son and he happens to have a milk allergy, so I'm waiting to try yogurt a bit longer...
But i still have my print out from the "Pediatric guideline" for foods to be given and when. It says No meat, No yogurt and No Poultry before 7 months of age. Only introduce the baby to 1 of these new foods at a time. AND in a 5-7 day waiting period. This gives enough time for you to see if an allergic reaction has occurred to that specific food.
Hope you have a wonderful Mother's Day !!!
Hope this helps, take care :)

I waited til 11 months to feed my son the infant yogurts (yobaby organic yogurt) which he loved, but then I read that "real" milk shouldn't be given until 1 so I actually just waited. IMO, he has the rest of his life to eat good stuff, so what's the hurry if there's a chance it could cause allergies later? Now he's 13 months old and eats them with no worries.

I started giving mine yogurt at 9 mos. I fed him the Plain Whole Fat yogurt as opposed to the ones filled with sugar. I added cut up little bits of fresh fruits like banana, strawberry, and blueberry. He loved it and still does. It is very healthy and good for them. I also started feeding him large curd whole fat cottage cheese at this time as well.

I learned from my WIC nutritionist that at 9 mnths of age you can give them very small amounts.
(I'm not exactly sure what the amount was though)
However, my pedi always said to wait until they are 1 to introduce any dairy so that's what I did.

I've heard it can give babys food allergies if given to early.
Either way, I would at least wait until he reaches 9 mnths of age and just introduce very small amounts at that time.

Take Care!

Mine had soy yogurt from about 6 months. They were organic and he loved them. Sometimes I would throw in the non-soy version. I believe it is the same brand you are talking about, just the soy version. He just turned four and we are yogurt freaks. lol LOVE IT! Yogurt, especially organic, in my opinion, is easy for them to process and not harmful.
