I made homemade food so not sure difference between 1st and second store bought foods but I can tell you with my first child I was ever so careful about everything I fed her. Then I had my second child 18 mos after the first and the older child handed everything under the sun to the second one whenever I turned my back. Can you say peanut butter and jelly at 7 mos old? I almost had a panic attack but baby 2 did survive everything tossed her direction by my little helper. Good luck and don't worry too much!

I never really noticed a difference in the consistency of stage 1 and 2 foods just the quantity. Stage 3 is where they keep the chunks of stuff in there.

The stage 2 foods are still quite pureed, no chunks so I'd give them a try with him.

Not too early! Unless he doesn't do well with 1st foods or is a known choker ;-) but really, they are nearly the same - I never really noticed a difference either, they are both pureed quite fine. I actually skipped 1st foods this time around 7 went right to 2nd foods (my little boy is 7 months also). I've also been trying pea sized amounts of actual banana and other super soft foods in super soft amounts.
