I love credit unions.
I grew up with my money as a kid in a credit union. Never had anything bad to say about them.
Hi! I recently looked into refinancing our vehicle through a credit union. They have amazing rates but I am still a little uneasy about using the union. I do not personally know anyone that uses one. I am looking for feedback regarding their stability or any other info.. good or bad.. Thanks in advance
All I have to say is this site has never let me down. Thanks ladies for all your input, it was great- Just what I was looking for. We are going today to complete the paperwork. Why in the world have I not been using a credit union before is the question I am asking myself.. Thanks for all your great feedback!! So greatly appreciated.!
I love credit unions.

I love credit unions! They are locally owned and operated and you are a member owner - and they will take of you. As a member of the credit union you actually have a say in the way they are run, not so big-wig making lots of money sitting behind a desk thousands of miles away. :)
I have used a credit union since 1996 and I love it! My husband used to be with Wamu and when we got married changed to the credit union. We get fabulous service and when there have been issues, like checks stolen and washed or my credit card number stolen they are on it instantly. I don't think you can go wrong with a credit union. Funny story, My fil loved Bank of America and said I should have my business accounts with them because they cash your checks right away. I told him I know they do, my mail was stolen, my checks were washed and Bank of America cashed it right away :)
My husband and I have had excellent service and luck with our credit union, we use DCU. I would highly reccomend a CU!! :) We've used them for all of our car loans!!
I have my car loan through a credit union and have no problems with them (Sun West Federal Credit Union), The dealership got us a better rate with them. Beofer we moved to AZ I had my bank with a credit union for aqalmost 8 years and never experienced any problem either (North Island Credit Union). The only big difference that I can see with credit unions is the availability of branches. We use Wells Fargo now because when we bought our house out here that is who we went to for our ome loan, but I would not be detered from banking with a credit union, and have never heard anything bad aout them.
My parents used credit unions when I was growing up. When I married, almost 20 years ago now, I moved cross country and had to open my first "bank" (non credit union) account. I was blown away by the fees, poor customer service, and headaches I encountered. Luckily within 2 years I was hired at a college which was part of a credit union. I joined immediately! They are SO much better than banks. I'll admit something embarassing here, but during my first pregnancy (my son is now 12), I got ticked off about something that happened at my local branch. I don't even remember what it was by now. But I pulled all my money out and opened an account at a local bank. BIG MISTAKE! Once again I was shocked at the fees, etc... So I had to go crawling back :) but luckily they let me reopen my accounts! In the years since I had a small National City bank account my MIL opened to put money in for helping w/ kids clothes, activities, etc. Same situation, fees up the wazoo. I HIGHLY recommend credit unions for all banking services. I have our home loan, savings, checking, credit card, etc... all through mine. Your money is still protected by the federal government, up to $100,000. And if you have more money than that to worry about, you don't really need to refinance that car! :) Good luck! J.
100% pleased! They do offer great rates and local offices if you need other banking-type services. We will definitely use them again when we are ready for our next vehicle. My sister has all 3 of her vehicles thru her credit union at work.
We just purchased our car through our credit union last month and it is great.
My parents were Federal Employees and always have used their credit unions. They have great rates, they give great service. They have purchased homes, vehicles, and used home improvement loans.. Always been very pleased.
we paid for my husband truck through the credit union the his company was with., i thought it was great.they took out an amout every pay check so it was like we never missed it. they did that for a 5 year period. we really liked it. good luck, R.
Credit unions are safer than larger financial institutions in slow economic times.
I LOVE my credit union! Their rates and fees are WAY less than one of those money-sucking megabanks!
Credit unions are fantastic! I've been a credit union member for at least 20 years. I prefer them to banks. I find they are much more customer oriented and not out to nickle and dime you to death with little add on fees all over the place. Between my husbands work and mine, we belong to 2 credit unions (we have our mortgage with one) and we still use 1 bank because it's available in a wide region (and our renter pays rent through it).
love my credit union: we have a mortgage, car loan, HSA, savings account with them.
I've always done my banking at a credit union and have no complaints, but just like banks, find a financial institution that meets your needs.
CU's sometimes have lower fees, but can have limited services. (for example, my forer CU didn't have a personal ATM --newer one does -- by they have an agreement with several other ATMS in my town, so I can still get free service.
Good luck!!!
When we lived in MO we used a credit union. At first we just opened a savings account and had a checking account at a reg. bank. The credit union had a partnership of sorts with Enterprise Car Sales. The had a flyer in the statement so we were in need of a car so we looked, got the financing through the credit union. No problems at all. We also opened 2 of our 3 sons savings accts. at the CU. The only reason we do not use one now is b/c we go back and forth between TN and MO and needed banks that were available in both states. CU are usually just local.
I have banked with a Credit Union for 17 years. I love it. It is member owned (that is why the rates are so good). I like it because I feel like it gives me more personal options and they actually care about me as a customer (because I pay the salary). Credit Unions are insured just like other banks, so they are stable. I would highly recommend using one. I equate it to going to a big chain store vs a Mom and Pop shop. I would rather visit the Mom and Pop and know where the money is going (in their pocket vs to a bunch of stockholders). Good luck.
i would completely recommend using a credit union. we bank with a credit union and i got my first loan though them to consolidate my bills before i married and since i have finance three vehicle through them and when the rates are where i want them i intend on refinancing my home with them. they are very stable and they have kept me from buying lemons for vehicles.
absolutely use a credit union. It is owned by real people like you and me, not a board or a huge corporate company. They also pay back their members with dividends from what they make that year. The more money you have in the bank, the more dividend they give you. The people with money in the credit union are the 'stock owners' basically. Very stable, especially if you use one that has a few banks...ie Ascend is here and pretty big.
