My son is 3 and still won't use the potty. I think he has a fear. He is very active and won't stop for much. He wants his diaper changed constantly. I need so very creative ideas for him. Thanks!

What can I do next?

Don't worry, he won't start kindergarten in diapers. He'll go when he's ready. I have a 3 year, 2 month old who has been "potty trained" for about a month. He just decided one day (after trying everything you can think of including some things I'm not very proud of) to use the potty and has only had about 25 accidents since :)~. Hang in there. He'll get the hang of it sooner or later.

PS...back off a little. Let him be in control. My peditrician told us that feeding and pottying should never be a battle. He asked my son at his 3 year old visit if he liked using the potty. My son said no. The dr told him that we sure would be proud when he decided to use it all the time. He was potty trained in days. I made it a point to take him back to the dr to report his progress so the dr could compliment him.

Nothing worked for us until we hid all the diapers and pull-ups so that we would not be tempted to use them AND we moved the potty chair into the play room so that he wouldn't have to leave what he was doing. Several accidents that first day, but it got a lot better after that! After a couple of weeks we were able to do away with the potty chair and just use the bathroom.

My son was almost three and not going potty...so I finally said enough is enough. One his third brithday we told him that he was a big boy now and could not wear diapers anymore. We gave our diapers to our younger cousins and we went COLD TURKEY in underpants after MONTHS of battling about the potty. It worked...we had about a week of accidents, but then it was done. We never used pullups or anything at night. We let him know how uncomfortable it is to be in dirty big boy pants. It is not fun for that week, but honestly I have NO regrets and will potty train my 14 month old much earlier than I did my oldest now that I know what I am doing! Good luck!

try putting cheerios or fruit loops in the potty for "target" practice. Also, putting Blue "dye" in the potty and having him turn it green is always fun and usually helpful. Another resource that we have used-if you go on-line to Chuck E Cheese, they have a potty chart, it may just be an achievement chart but it works for potty time. Hope some of these ideas help-we are now working with our 2 1/2 yr. old DS. Fun times!
