Hey ladies my son in 3 weeks old he drinks 4oz of formula every 4 hours!! Lately he's lately he's been wanting more after 2hours he was born at 9lbs 5.9 oz and at his last appointment he weighed 9lbs 11oz is this too much to feed him??? Also everytime i breast feed him he spits up right after but he doesn't do this with formula why is that??? Any suggestion please?
I always nurse first but he spits up then i give him formula!!! Is like i don't have enough milk to satisfy him, his latch is good and i burp in between feedings and i unlatch him so he could breath also do the same with the bottle but everytime i nurse he stays on each boob for 20 to 25 min. But after i stop do to the swollenes he wants more?? That's when formula comes in!

My daughter had a milk protien allergy as a newborn, and spit up a lot. Once I cut most of the dairy out of my diet, she stopped spitting up so much. (Her reflux got a lot better too.) if he is only spitting up when being nursed, I would try an elimination diet yourself to see if something YOU are eating is causing his tummy upset. Milk is a very common culprit, so I would start there. (It takes a couple weeks for the milk protien to get out of your body, so stick it out for 3 weeks or so before deciding there isn't any improvement...)
Otherwise, you can't really over feed a baby... He will eat when he is hungry, and stop when he is full. Babies gain a lot of weight for those first few months. :)
You are designed to produce on demand for baby. After nursing on both sides, go back to side one. Your body will not be able to produce what baby needs if you supplement with formula. You need to tell your boobs to produce by nursing, and baby is more efficient than pumping.
As to spitting up, babies do this. They swallow air and then burb. I had two big spitter uppers. If goes away by month 8 or so.
If he's hungry, feed him. Try not to worry about how many ounces he's eating or how often he's eating. If he's hungry, feed him.
One of the advantages of breast feeding (and I wasn't able to breastfed one of my kids, so no judgements here) is that you really have no way of knowing how much baby is eating. You just feed them when they are hungry.
Not sure why your little guy is spitting up after nursing. Definitely something to mention to your pediatrician. But try not to worry too much. I know it's hard. With little ones, just follow their lead on these things. He'll stop eating when he's full.
Feed when he's hungry. And when giving a bottle, let him stop when he's done. Sometimes people bottle feeding try to encourage babies to finish a bottle - that is the only way to over-feed a baby.
As for the spitting up when nursing, make sure you stop a few times to burp. And check his latch. It may be that his latch is a little off, and he's getting more air when he nurses and tht is causing him to spit up.
(note of caution so that you don't have any surprises - if you are feeding formula every 4 hours and only nursing sometimes, your supply is going to disappear very quickly. If this is what you have planned that's fine. But if you are hoping to nurse for more than another couple weeks (or less), you need to stop giving formula and nurse exclusively.)
At 3 weeks of age, it's normal that babies want to eat every 2 hours. "Feeding on demand" is the way to go. So if he's hungry, feed him. My baby spit up constantly whether breast or bottle fed until she was 9 months old. As long as he is gaining weight, spitting up is just normal for some babies.
You could burp him every once in a while , while you are feeding him. You know how they sometimes rest a moment? Sit him up and burp him, from his lower back, keep patting up his back..
Your baby is about to go into his firth growth spurt of wanting to eat every hour or so. If you don't nurse him more, you will loose your milk supply. Do you burp him while nursing? This would get rid of the extra air while he is nursing.
My daughter was exclusively breastfed and would throw up. We would clean her up, the floor and me and she would nurse again. This was for about two weeks after that all went well.
Congrats on your new one.

Confused. Formula every four hours and when you breastfeed he spits up.
Do you BF and then formular???? Or formular and then BF. you need to be more specific. Feed him if he is hungry.
