We went to St. George Island for Christmas one year. It was awesome! The weather was pleasant (compared to Idaho...) and we were able to swim in the ocean and everything. Plus, no crowds!! :D
Im trying to come up with some great vacation ideas for an extended family trip. We have a great timeshare so lodging wont be a problem. What were some of your favorite, most memorible family vacations?

Although we love Disneyland last winter, I would have to say our two most memorable vacations were our trips to Rapid City, SD (as well as a side trip to Custer Sate Park in SD, camping, seeing stuff, and Wind Cave), and Yellowstone last summer (first time there for all of us, we camped and hiked and all that stuff)
Our favorite vacation comes to a tie between Glacier Natl Park last summer and an Alaskan cruise we did with our inlaws.
Family camping or hiking trips. We did do a vacation to Hawaii, that was pretty memorable and awesome.
Last summer we took a super fun Southern Colorado trip and took our kids (2&5yo) to the Sand Dunes, on the Durango/Silverton train trip and great camping/fishing along the way.
Mine would have to be our trip to San Diego. There is a girls surfing camp that was a blast. The age range was 3-50 so most women in your group could do it together. The 50 y.o. was there with her 3 bff for her 50th b-day.
Is not my best vacation ever but is the one we always joke about.
We went to Mexico when my oldest was young, at that point my mother didn't have her VISA.
My older had a bad flu and was taking medication.
We forgot my kid medicine so my mom who was wearing pajamas, didn't have her hair done and was carrying medicines crossed without any papers!
We (my husband and I) were chock, scare, confused, there she comes screaming with her hand up in the air with the bag with medicine: "You forgot the baby medicine"!
We probably should have made her go back but at first wasn't sure what was going on and I was scare they would think something bad.
So we just took her with us to a restaurant so we could see if there was something going on.
She said she didn't thought she passed, she was expecting somebody further to tell her to stop and next thing she knew there she was, I ask her what they said, she said: Who?, lol
We took her back, but first we took her for 3 days of vacations and to eat Taco Bell (she said that was the worst Mexican food ever and that we should suit) and many other things...we also had to buy her clothes, lol.
Now she has her VISA for many years but we always remember that time, we say that imigration was scare for this crazy old lady with pajamas and messy hair, lol
Sorry, I forgot to add destination, we took her to Las Vegas, but no so good with kids, our family's favorite was in Disney/Universal, we have go there many times and we still love it.
I hate camping now, but when I was a kid I loved it! One of my favorites was when we went to Mammoth Cave in Kentucky. We camped there and took a six hour tour of the caves. We had a blast!
Here are some memorable things we've done:
Green Bay, Wisconsin late summer to watch the Packers. Practices are free and open to the public, bleachers are set up around the practice field and the players come out to sign caps and shirts for the kids. We took a tour of the stadium, visited their Hall of Fame, ate at Brett Favres steakhouse. I'm not into football but my boys loved it. Green Bay has a small, inexpensive community amusement park, too. After that we went to Wisconsin Dells to visit the water parks.
Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii. There was alot to do here, snorkeling, submarine tours, kayaking, hiking to the volcano, as well as body surfing at the beach.
California Central Coast - one of my favorite areas to revisit. I like to stay in Cambria, go to Hearst Castle, watch the sea lions from the viewpoint just off the highway, shop and eat in San Luis Obispo, go to Morro Bay.
Our favorite vacations so far (my kids are 6 and 9) - Williamsburg, VA + the Outer Banks, NC; Moab, UT (Arches National Park); San Diego, CA; Seattle + coastal Washington (Anacortes/LaConner/Whidbey Island area); Colorado Springs + Mesa Verde National Park (perhaps too close to home for you, but we had an absolute blast).
Well sounds like you already have a destination?
Favorites with the kids are doing scavenger hunts, treasure hunts, games, roaming in the woods looking for rocks, sticks etc. Bring stuff for family games like 3 legged race, do a fake egg hunt ( or some other object and form teams with mixed family members), play horseshoes or "washers" where you dig two small holes in the ground and toss large size washers (the kind that would go on a bolt? you can buy at the hardware store and we would put a piece of black tape on one of the teams to tell the difference. Make sure the kids have containers to put their "treasures" that they find too. Get some good guides/books/websites on current viewable constellations and some myth stories to go along with.
