Hi, mamas! My six year old son was diganosed with pneumonia a little less than two weeks ago. He had a fever and a pretty bad cough so I took him in and his pediatrician gave him an antiboidic to take for five days. We did that and he seemed better. He went back on Tuesday and she said he sounded all clear. But he still isn’t like himself .He comes home from school and wants to nap ( he never naps) and has little interest in things. My question to you mamas is, have any of your littles had pneumonia and if so did it take a while to recover?

What can I do next?

Pneumonia can take a long time to fully recover from.
Expect the naps and general tiredness to last a few more weeks to a month for him to completely be over it.
He needs the rest - so let him sleep and rest as much as he wants.

I had pneumonia a could of years ago, and it took me 3 or 4 weeks before I was back to full strength. My doctor actually told me that would be the case, so I knew to expect it. I'm not sure what's normal for a 6 year old, and if it were me, I'd call the pediatrician just to double check. I always feel better when the doctor or nurse tells me something sounds normal :-)

Pneumonia is exhausting. It takes weeks to get back to 100% even after the infection is cleared. Let him rest and take it easy. He should be a little better every day but it takes much longer than you think it will.

I had pneumonia several years ago, it took me a good month to get my strength back. It takes a lot out of your body and it will take time for me to build back his strength.

Normal for post pneumonia. Let him rest when he needs to. In no time he will be back to normal

Most people, including children. Don’t snap back to 100% normal after pneumonia is cleared and RX has been taken.

It takes time to fully recover. Being tired, taking a nap is normal healing process.

Talk to your Dr so you understand what pneumonia does to the body and recovery time.

Don’t push your child through recovery too fast or you’ll risk relapse.

When I had pneumonia, it took a few weeks before I regained strength. It can really take a lot out of you. Needing a nap after school (or work, for adults) is common. If he is still lethargic this time next month, or if he relapses in the meantime, take him to be seen again.

I've had pneumonia. Yes, it takes awhile to get back energy. My young grandkids (5 and 7) are tired and take naps after school when they have had colds.

We haven't had pneumonia recently, just a really bad bug that's been going around, and myself and one of my children have been napping - this is a full week after we had it. So I would think totally normal after pneumonia.

As you get back into things, you kind of overdo it without realizing it - and it's just your body's way of telling you it needs rest. School is tiring for six year olds as it is. My kids are like this after a cold or cough when they first go back. They don't usually have friends over or go to regular activities or sports for a while until they regain their full strength. We take it easy otherwise they end up staying home from school again.

Hope he feels better soon :)

I had pneumonia in college and it took me 3 weeks to fully recover as a healthy adult. As a child could take longer especially going to school so quickly.
