I think a gift card to a sporting good store is in order. There is no way you'll be able to read his mind on this one.
I'm looking to buy a nice fishing rod & reel for fathers day. The problem is, I have no idea what to buy!! I've been looking online and I think I'm even more confused now! Lol. Who knew there could be so many! Anyways, anyone with experience in this department?!? All your help would be appreciated! Thanks!

There are certain things I would never buy for someone without their input, and a fishing rod is one of them. There are so many differences and sometimes it really comes down to how it feels in your hand, how balanced it feels to that person, the thickness, the type of material in the grip ect. and there are also personal preferences for reel type and style. If I wanted to get my husband this I would consider a gift card for his favorite sporting supply store and let him pick out his own rod.
Unless he is not as picky as the guys I know around here, lol, and in that case any rod will do.
Does your husband fish with a buddy? If so, I would ask someone he fishes with. The combos are endless and it really depends on where they fish, what they like to catch, etc. Fresh water vs. salt water is one consideration, how big the fish are that they catch in another, and there are many other things to consider that I don't understand either. I took one of my kids to Bass Pro Shops over the weekend to get a fishing rod and tuned out 99% of what he said but he seems to have found something that he's happy with.
I agree a gift card might be the best idea. Cabelas has a great selection of rods and reels and he can get exactly what he wants. If he fly fishes, maybe you can find a class where he can build his own rod. There are a couple of guys around where we live who do that.
Well....there are a ton of options with fishing poles. You would need to know what he is fishing for (rainbows, bass, pike, salmon, walleye, etc.) where he is fishing (river, lake, ocean, trolling vs still fishing) and if he wants a baitcaster reel or a spinning reel. Is he a fly fisherman or not?
I fish a lot with my husband and have for years but I wouldn't even attempt to buy him a new rod and reel unless he had specifically shown me ones he wanted.
When it comes to these kind of purchases, I think you need to ask your husband what he wants.
If he has a fishing buddy--definitely ask him.
Otherwise I'd go for the gift card to Cabellas or Gander Mt so he can get exactly what he wants!
My husband has been wanting a bigger TV for our living room for a couple of years now, and I have been fighting it. Well the one in our bedroom (newer than the living room one) decides the sound isn't necessary sometimes, and it takes him about 10 minutes each time to fix it. So on Father's Day, I'm taking him to Best Buy to pick out a new TV for the living room, and we'll move the living room one to our bedroom.
I put this out there because maybe that's a good way for you to do it also. Take him to the store and let him pick what he wants.
My husband has it easy, I like anything that sparkles, but he can be a bit more picky :).
