This may sound strange, but our House mate has been living with us for almost a year. He is absolutely amazing. He helps with my kids so much i.e. watches little ones so I dont have to take them all to get big brother from school. Or he will babysit so I can run to the store without them...and he even took all three over night this past winter so we could stay the night in a fancy hotel after my husbands work party. Not to mention he got my middle guy potty trained in one night..So this fathers day I was thinking about incorporating him into our fathers day plans...I want to get or make him something that really show how much we appreciate everything he does around here for us.

What would you get the non-father for Fathers day? He loves camping and doing manly things...and loves being active...I should know what to get him I have had him in my life for almost thirteen years...but I want it to be super special because he means alot to my family and I.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I am thinking..half useful...half sentimental. So he ''Gets'' it. He is one of those guys that will probably never get married. He had just gotten out of an 8 year long relationship when he came to live with us. He had proposed and she said no. So, he vowed he would never ask that question again...He is a big soft teddy bear when it comes to the boys. So, I want him to know what a great Uncle he is!

SO, I am going to get a good picture of the Rainer beer can...his favorite beer and paint my variation of it for
him...and then buy him a case...then have the kids each make him a card...I cant think of any other way he could feel loved:)

I don't know what you are wanting to spend or how sentimental you want to be. Last year we got my outdoor loving hubby a Camelbak bag. He uses it camping, hiking, biking and kayaking. Along with that we did something more sentimental (My older son made drink coasters for his office and my 2 yo colored the sides of a post it stack for his office).

Men are hard to buy for. That being said, they are also usually simple creatures.

- Gift card to a sporting store (ie Dick's, etc.)
- His favorite beer
- Have the kids each make him something - cheap and sooo cute.
- Write him a letter telling him how special he is to you and your family. Have each family member sign.
- A trip overnight for him or all the fam to a cabin where he can canoe, etc.
- Leave him in the house alone for an entire day! Remote, beer, bed.
- Gift card for golf/clothes - whatever else his interests are.

My little brother (who is about 5 years younger) wrote me a letter for mother's day a few years ago. It was a heartfelt letter telling me that I was a great mom and that he could see how much I loved my kids and family by seeing us together. It went on to say how proud he was of me. It really meant the world to me. I still have it and refer to it often. :o)

How nice that you are doing this for your good friend! And he certainly sounds like he is well-deserving! I like the idea you mentioned of something useful, something sentimental. How about a framed picture of him with the kids or family and some cards the kids complete for him? I am not sure how old your kids are, but what about doing a special day like a Saturday where the kids make him a breakfast in bed and do small chores for him? I am not sure what your husband might make of sharing Father's Day, but you could also do a special Uncle Day or just do it on the Saturday before Father's Day. A special dinner of his faves and/or a gift card to a nice place might be a nice touch, too, depending on what he likes. How thoughtful you are to plan something nice for him! Best wishes to you, your family, and special uncle!
