Hi Everyone ~~
I'm trying to think of a good craft idea for a 5 and 6 year old to make for their daddy for Father's Day. Something nice but not too complicated that maybe he would actually use and they would enjoy making. And something that doesn't cost a lot. I have quite a bit of crafty and artsy things on hand and hope not to buy anything or very little.

Thank You for any suggestions and or ideas!

So What Happened?

I'm their Grandma and they stay with me during the day, so they would be making it here with me. We've been making crafts as gifts and such since they were two. Their mom will take care of the big gift. I'm just trying to present an example of making and giving and thoughtfulness. And they enjoy it too. Last year we made sun catchers for him. And it really does mean a lot to him. But thanks for your thoughts Granma T

Thank you for all the little jems. I haven't chosen which to do, but I've saved them. I'm thinking the stones or t-shirt idea, but what's great is we can always do them any time really. Making stones for the garden path would be a great summer project for us. Thank you again ladies and I hope you enjoy Father's day along with your hubbies.

Around that age, I had my kids draw pictures of themselves doing a fun activity with their dad. They used bright colored markers on 12x18 paper and I had the artowork framed. Their dad hung these in his office at work. He was proud to show them to everyone.

Hi C.-

Years ago...when kiddos were about 8 and younger...we got a plain solid color t shirt...and some fabric paint (each a different colour) and had each kiddo put hand prints on it...I think I wrote (in paint) 'all hands on dad' or something like that!

Have fun!

A friend took my oldest (now 7, then 6) to one of the kid's build activities at Home Depot. My son built an "electronics docking station" and gave it to my husband for Father's Day last year. It's solid woood, well made, and my husband uses it daily. Our son was very proud. I don't think it cost anything - I am pretty sure they do this with scraps.

My 4 year old son just went to a birthday party over the weekend at Micheal's craft store. All of the kids got to paint on a blank canvas and take it home. It was a lot of fun and unique. So I may have my son and daughter do more of those to hang in dad's office at home or work. We have also thought about going to a paint your own pottery place to paint a mug and dish for him.

Last year we did a concrete stepping stone. We decorated it with mosaic tiles from a kit. As my son was only a few months old I put his feet in it. This year I think we will do another but have him collect the stones, etc. All you need is a bag of quick-crete and something to mould it in. We used an old garbage pail cut up. My husband loves his stone!

Don't get too revv'd up trying to please Dad, because they don't think of Father's Day the way lots of women feel about Mother's Day.
I'd do something practical like a new picture of the kids in a homemade frame that he can actually use. Or use the day as a good excuse to buy him something he REALLY wants like better internet service, flat screen TV, new smart phone.. etc.... card signed by all of you guys.

We'll be collecting four rocks (1 for each member of the family) and glueing them onto a board with moss/fake grass) and glueing eyes on them and writing "Dad Rocks" on it!! I saw this at work and thought it was so cute!!!
