Father/son Fun over Holiday Break

Hubby's in med school and has a 2.5 week break over Christmas. Son has overlapping couple of weeks. Mom's gotta work.

We live in For Worth and budget is tight. Great Wolf Lodge is close but ridiculously expensive.

Any ideas of fun day or overnight trips for the guys that fit a tight budget - best bang for buck? A couple hours travel would probably be fine if the destination were cool.

Thanks!

One thing you might want to check into is:
Bureau of Engraving and Printing
Western Currency Facility Tour and Visitor Center
9000 Blue Mound Road
Fort Worth, TX 76131
###-###-#### (local)
(866) 865-1194 (toll-free)
[For either telephone number, press "2" to speak directly with the tour scheduler.]
This is where they print our money and my family and the scout troups that I have brought there really enjoyed it. We haven't been there for several years. THEY ARE CLOSED TO TOURS the week between Christmas and New Years. It is free. Fossil Rim Park and Dinosaur Valley State Park are also fun day trips that you can make out of Ft Worth. Hope they have lots of fun! Maybe they could team up and cook dinner for mom one night!

Men are simple. Breakfast at iHop. A movie. Some home project they can work on together. Some common interests?? A fishing trip. How about a camping trip? Even if it's pretty cold, KOA campgrounds have cabins, hiking, fishing etc. They need an adventure!!

Look at your area museums - they often have special programs during school vacation including some fun activities, mini classes and sometimes sleepovers. You don't say how old your son is but in our area the Children's Museum and the Museum of Science have awesome programs. Look into the public library to see if they have passes, AAA discounts for members, and even a museum membership that has a reciprocal relationship with other museums. AAA also has discount movie tickets and leads on other attractions in the area.

Also, edit the title of your question to put "Fort Worth area" in the title - it will go to more people in your area or with a working knowledge of it.

Ice skating at the mall. Is Six Flags doing anything for the holidays?

Have them camp in the back yard.

We don't know anything about either one of them, except that dad is a great guy.

My husband and daughter are going to participate in a fund raiser this Saturday. They will play in a Father/son (daughter) hockey game. It will benefit a little guy at the rink who was recently diagnosed with cancer. They should both come home tired.

I don't know about overnight destinations but...

Six Flags has Holiday in the Park

The Gaylord has the Ice Sculptures (you can get discounted tickets online.... My daughter went with several friends and they loved it.... huge ice slide. Make sure you wear gloves and hats, The Gaylord provides the jackets because it is 8 degrees in the ice event.

I don't know facts but I am sure things are going on in Sundance Square since it is such a popular place.

Have fun!
