We just got back from an 8 night Disney, they're only in Galveston through may, then back again briefly in the fall - I'd highly recommend it!
Has anyone taken a kid friendly cruise? My family and I are looking into taking a family cruise......looking for a cruise that has several kid friendly activities for an 8 and 5 yr. old. Any suggestions?

One word.....Disney. We've been on 6 different cruise lines both with and without kids. Our last 3 trips have been Disney. Until we are empty nesters we will likely stick with Disney. Spend the extra $ to do it. You won't regret it.
DISNEY CRUISE hands down!
We went on one when our kids were early teen/tween age. My husband and I weren't too excited about it but it turned out to be fabulous. We had so much fun.
We did a 3 night out of Port Canavaral - wish we had done the 4 night.
I have known several people who have taken Disney cruises, and they have said those are the only cruises they will go on now.
Um totally disney. And they are going out of galvaston right now. Darn I wish I would have done that. You go to port caneveral (day at disneyworld included) AND the private island. We did the Mexican riveria 18 months ago out of LA and had the GREATEST time. We are doing Alaska with Disney in 61 days (but who is counting?). My girls will be 8 and 5 when we go this time. During the day when you are not in port there are first run movies, animation classes, tea parties, dance parties, ping pong, shuffle board, basketball, and so on. Plus in the kids clubs there are all kinds of activities going on. It changes everyday. Oh plus the pools and the food. It is actually quite tough to be bored. every night there is a show. We actually didnt even do some of the family activities like trivia, kareoke, etc. there just wasnt enough time.
My 5 year old and I are going on Carnival in 2 weeks to Bahamas from Port Canaveral. I wanted Disney or at least Royal Caribbean, but the friend that I invited wanted to bring her 7 yr old nephew during his spring break (they are flying from Boston), and there wasn't anything that matched up right for that particular week (my time was flexible), except Carnival. It's my first cruise, and I have to admit, I was originally disappointed and felt that I wanted a bit "more" (for me), it has plenty for the kiddos though, which was a must, so I booked the cruise, and that was 2 months ago. My ship now leaves in 2 weeks! And it's taken me all this time to get excited about it. So what if the staterooms aren't as nice and have a "motel" feel (Lol), I got a balcony, I'm going to the Bahamas with a Private Island Getaway on Nassau, and my kiddo will be so excited she won't know what to do with herself; we're gonna have a blast!! Plus if I start with Carnival, then I'll be able to compare as I go on up! I am thinking I'd like to do Royal Caribbean next, then Disney to really compare. Although, I'm sure Disney is the best, but hey, I'm Ok with saving it for last! Lol...
Disney hands down just be ready to take out a 2nd mortgage...
Disney hands down. Heck even if you do not have kids, it is a blast. My husband and I went this year with friends. We had a ball. Disney knows how to do it. You could probably get a good deal out of Galveston. It is one of their test markets. I got a 6 night cruise to Canada from Ny for $600. Plus $150 on board credit.
I have to agree with Angela - Disney Cruises are AMAZING!!! We went on the Disney Fantasy out of Cape Canaveral about six months ago and my five year old still talks about it and asks at least once a week when we're going back. They have so many awesome activities and on board amenities that are fun for kids and adults. They will love the kids club and the shows. If you are on the Fantasy or the Dream, there is a huge waterslide. The Fantasy also has a great detective game that sends you all over the ship looking for clues.
The two smaller ships don't have the water slide, but are more intimate and still have great kids clubs, shows, and amenities.
There are some that leave out of Galveston if you don't want to travel all the way to Florida.
Make sure you pick one that has a day at Castaway Cay, Disney's private island. It is gorgeous and has so many fun things for kids!
All that said, your kids would have a blast on pretty much any cruise. Royal Caribbean is another great option for families. Carnival is known for being fun, but honestly, is less appealing for adults. Many adults travel on Disney even without children because it's such a wonderful experience.
If I can piggyback onto S.'s question, I was going to ask the same thing. My son is just turning 3 though and can be a little shy. I wasn't sure if he would enjoy it as much as older kids. Plus it's our 10 year anniversary and we'd like some alone time.
I have only been on one Cruise and it was Disney last October leaving out of Galveston. My kids were 7 & 12 and we had the best time!
We got a great deal it was a Sat - Sat and $600 per person. I think it was so cheap because it was one of the first cruises out of Galveston. We did the Grand Cayman Islands, Cozumel and one other stop in Mexico.
If you have any questions feel free to message me! I wouldn't worry to much about off ship excursions - that is where we spent the most money and there was plenty to do if we had just got off and stayed close to the boat.
I have heard amazing things about the Disney cruises. Am hoping to take our family next year!
